Will my nipples....

......ever stop hurting?  At some point they get used to it right?  I think it seems to be getting worse instead of better. And, he's been doing this cluster feeding in the evenings and by the time I go to bed I am hurting soo bad!  It will stop hurting right?!?!

Re: Will my nipples....

  • It will get better--stick with it!  It took me two months, but it was worth every second.

  • As long as his latch is correct, yes, it will get better!  Are you using Lansinoh cream?  That stuff is worth its weight in gold.  If you don't have some, get some.  NOW.  It will help.  If you're unsure if your baby's latch is correct, get a LC or someone at La Leche League to look at it.  An incorrect latch can cause lots of problems and pain.
  • They will, but I'd also just suggest you keep an eye on it. At three weeks I finally found out the reason for the intense pain in my nipples (and shooting pain in my breasts, which is what really made me wonder if something was wrong) was really the result of a nasty case of thrush. I'm sure, in hindsight, I had had it for at least a week before we caught it, and getting it cleared up made a world of difference. Hang in there, and if you think something's wrong, don't hesitate to see a LC.

  • I would see if you could visit with a LC, like previous post said.  My nipples hurt quite a bit at the beginning, but with the help of a nipple shield, we got the hang of BF and now do it without any pain.

  • It will get easier and less painful.  Just hang in there.  What worked for me was expressing a little bit of breastmilk and rubbing it on the nipple after each feeding, then letting my breasts air dry.
  • YES! I was the same way and reading this board made me stick it out! I'm glad I did cause now it's a breeze!!!

Your body needs to adjust and since you don't get a break when you BF it's hard but it will get better! I used the nipple shield to "take the edge off" and it worked great.

Also, I skipped pumping until it got comfortable.
