September 2011 Moms

I look like a sausage in my pants.

So I travel M-F for work, and when I went to get dressed this morning NONE of the pants I had packed fit properly. Pre-pregnancy I was a size zero, so things are expanding quickly with nowhere to hide. I'm sure my coworkers are thinking I need to lay off the Dorios... it is making me wish I was out of the closet.

So clearly I need to shop. Question for you: are you buying work clothes one size larger so you can wear them post-partum, or are you jumping right to maternity clothes? I am also having a hard time finding attractive work clothes. Everything is casual or tent-like. UGH.

Loft does not have suits, Old Navy is not professional apparel... where is everyone buying work clothes? I need a ton of them and fast!

Re: I look like a sausage in my pants.

  • I got a few pairs of work pants from Motherhood.  They're flattering enough and they fit really well.  I don't think they have suits though.  The store I was in just had dressier pants, but if I recall correctly you can order suit separates online.

I think I also heard that Macy's started carrying maternity clothes in store.  Maybe try there?

ETA - when my BFF was pregnant she swore by Gap maternity clothes.  I don't really have a need for a suit at work so I haven't done much digging and see if they do have suit separates.

  • I would definitely recommend buying some bigger non-maternity clothes.  Once you have the baby you will want to wear these clothes instead of maternity clothes.  And it will probably take some weeks / months before the weight is off.
  • I'd also suggest buying some work clothes in a larger size.  A friend of mine had her baby last year and she was very petite prior to getting pregnant (maybe like a size 2).  While she lost all of the baby weight she said that her body changed considerably and she's no longer able to fit into her pre pregnancy clothes.  I think a lot of it was in her hip area as it kind of widened and then never went totally back to its original size.

  • I think Ricki's has a small selection of maternity wear. They have some professional clothes.

  • I don't really have much to add, being a teacher I just needed a few khakis which i got at Old Navy...but your thread title made me laugh really hard.

Thank you for making me laugh!!!

I went to Pea in the Pod tonight and bought some great pants, an adorable dress, and 2 tops that dont look like maternity items. I am actually excited to get dressed for work tomorrow!!! :-)
