If you are BFing #2, did you also with #1? I didn't have much luck at all with BFing Mackenzie and would really like to be able to do it with #2, whenever that is. I'm wondering what the success rate would be for those that weren't able to do it with the first LO, but could with the second, and also what would contribute to that success.
With DS #1 I developed mastitis 10 days after delivering, which resulted in a galactocele. I stuck it out for four months breastfeeding exclusively on one side and finally ended up in the hospital for 4 days with a sensitive staph infection in the galactocele. Needless to say it did not go well with #1. Everyone from friends to family to my OB said do not try to breastfeed #2. My breast doctor and husband were the only ones supporting me. Almost 9 weeks after DS #2's birth and things are going PERFECTLY. His latch, my supply, everything! You can do it.
I have two different friends who successfully breastfed their second (and third) child after not being able to bread feed their first. the one friend just never tried with her first child and then felt guilty and went on to breastfeed her next two with no problems and the other friend couldn't breastfeed her first for various reasons having to do with both her and her LO but with her second child she had a much easier time. there is definitely hope for you

My friend wasn't able to bf her first ds but she has been able to with ds #2. she said her 2 boys are night and day different and that the 2nd one just took to it better and she had more informationthan when she had her first a couple years ago.

I wasn't able to BF #1, but I did for a short time with #2. My first was born tongue tied which we didn't discover until a week later, and even after it was clipped she just wouldn't latch on. My 2nd one latched like a pro. There's hope. BUT the 2nd time you try brings with it the dynamic of trying to do it with another child running around taking advantage of you. I'll be the 1st one to say, I just don't see how others do it!

Re: 2nd time BFing mamas
Breastfeeding is going much better for me this time. I was just armed with way more information. I was clueless with DD#1.
