Trying to Get Pregnant

anovulatory cycle

Hi Ladies- i'm new here and hope that my FF chart shows up in my signature :) This is my first full month charting- last month I ready TCOYF cover to cover based upon browsing this blog- and started charting mid cycle. Last month I had a clear thermal shift, but this month It seems like this month I have not ovulated. I'm wondering how many of you have had an anovulatory cycle? I went of BC in September 2010...hoping for some feedback to curb my disappointment!

Re: anovulatory cycle

  • Hey there, I am still new to charting & learning myself so I am not sure about the whole not ovulating thing, but I do know that your cycle can be kind of wonky and take a while to regulate after coming off BC. I got off of BC pills in Oct 2010 and my cycles have been kind of crazy since then. Good luck to you and welcome!

  • I seem to be having an anovulatory cycle this month as well. From what I understand, it is not something to worry about if it's just a one-time thing, especially when your body is still adjusting to coming off BC. Keep humping it out, though, in case you do O :)

  • Give it a few days and see what your temps do.  It looks like it's possible that you O'd if your temps go back up....I think you just need some more temps to be sure.  It's also possible that you haven't O'd yet, but you will later.  Or it's possible that you are having an anovulatory cycle.  I hope it's one of the first two.  Smile

THIS!  I thought I was having a potentially anov cycle too (I normally O between CD14 and 19), but low and behold, CD 28** seems like I might have Oed.  You won't know the difference between a "delayed ovulation" cycle and an "anovulatory" cycle until its over, so please keep having sex!

**ETA:  It could be CD25, depending on the temp I discard.  Its still a funny looking chart, so could very well end up anovulatory.  But, remember, it is normal for one anovulatory cycle a year.

    From FF:

    Characteristics of Anovulatory Charts:

While your own chart may vary, there are certain characteristics that are common in anovulatory charts. They may not all be present at the same time or in each case. Most anovulatory charts:

    • show no biphasic pattern, no thermal shift
    • show erratic temperatures
    • have large temperature fluctuations, even when temperature is taken carefully
    • multiple patches of fertile cervical fluid
    • long cycles (not always)
    • irregular cycles (not always)
    • multiple positive OPKs separated by negative ones
    • signs of increased fertility but no thermal shift to confirm ovulation

    And this too:

"If you are sure that you are charting accurately and there is no sign of ovulation on your chart, you should assume that you are still waiting for ovulation, especially if you typically have long cycles. Keep on having intercourse when you see signs of increased fertility, particularly fertile cervical fluid, as ovulation may just be delayed."

ETA:  Based on OPKs & temps, you might have Oed on CD25, and today's temp is just a post O dip.
