We have one big account and consider all bills to be "our expenses" if we had them previously such as school loans, my car loan. At the end of the month whatever is left over basically gets split 4 ways (house fund, fun money for me, fun money for DH and vacation money). We don't take into account our difference and salaries and that has never bothered me. When we first merged however, I had a lot more saved that DH and I was working two jobs. I was a little hesitant to merge (mainly because I hated my PT job and was only doing it for extra me money), so what we did was I got a little extra in my personal account to start.

We're also a joint account family. DH is very picky, but very good at managing our money and keeping us in a good and comfortable financial situation. Mostly, we don't spend a lot on extras, and we always ask about purchases over $100. It works. Honestly I'm glad that he's handling it, because I am horrible with money. And mostly, I still shop the same. Always have, I just don't have to stress about it any more.
