Cloth Diapering

Disappointed

Overall, I'm pretty disapointed with my CD's in terms of their functionality.  I have a large mixed stash of diapers (BG 3.0's with snap and aplix, organic AIO BG, Fuzzibunz, Grovia AIO's and snap sets, GoGreen pockets) as well as prefolds/fitteds.

My son is 2 months old but he weighs 13 lbs 9 oz (at last appointment) and he's a big boy so it seems like these pockets should fit now but everything leaks! For overnights we are still relying on disposables bc they are the only thing that doesn't leak.  I don't know if it's how I'm stuffing them? For BG 3.0's I use the newborn insert, the bigger insert and a hemp insert and it leaks.  I HATE the fuzzibunz bc they leak instantly, like even as I have him on the changing table they leak and the Grovia snap sets usually work ok but not as overnights.

Actually, my go-to thing has become the prefolds bc with the Thirstie covers they don't leak.  During the day I change him every 2-3 hrs.  Any suggestions? Am I stuffing wrong? Is there something else out there that works better? Or is he really still just too small and we just need to wait a little while longer for a good fit?  I really want us to be happy CD-ing bc it's important to me but the leaks are discouraging.

Oh, everything has been prepped according to instruction and washed within proper CD guidelines so it's not a repelling issue.

Re: Disappointed

  • Are the inserts getting soaked? It doesn't sound like it. It sounds more like fit issues.  Does he have skinny legs?  It seems like he may just be too small for OS yet.

  • If the inserts are soaked when the diaper leaks then you need more inserts (or try a fitted with wool).  If the inserts aren't completely soaked then you have a repelling problem and may need to strip.

  • I get repelling issues really easily with out fuzzibunz diapers if I use too much detergent and I don't use very much at all. I would maybe try running an extra rinse on those to make sure all the detergent is out. I also agree with pp does he have skinny legs or are you putting them on tight enough?

  • I would say that it sounds like a fit issue.  Are you getting the diapers tight enough?
  • His legs my need to "chunk" up a little more.. Going by babys weight doesnt always work.  If he is leaking out the legs I would wait a few more weeks and try agian.  They will fit better as your baby grows!  Good Luck:)

  • Sounds like a fit issue to me, too. At almost 20 pounds, there still are a couple of OS that I'm waiting for Baby Bee to grow into.  They fit around the waist but the elastic isn't snug enough for her legs.  They may just never work for us.

  • I agree with prior posters, but also wanted to add that when my DS was that age, he just peed a LOT at one time, so we ended up changing him 2-3 times a night. Now he's able to go all night in a fitted with a wool cover, so there is hope!

  • Yeah BG & FB pockets never worked for us due to leaking- both sized & OS.  I moved to fitteds mostly & then we use BG Elementals & a couple Fishnoodles also.  I sold off all my pockets.
