What are you doing for exercise?

I woke up this morning with an urge to exercise. Up until now I just walk whenever the roads aren't very slippery, but that's about it. I signed up for a prenatal yoga class, but it's only one day a week. I'll be able to start walking more once the roads thaw out, but who knows when that will actually happen.

So what are you doing for exercise? Do you do regular classes, just prenatal yoga classes, go to the gym and do some weight training, swim? Inspire me, please!!!

  • Chase my kids around?

I'd really like to take a prenatal yoga class. I'm mostly just looking forward to some nicer weather so I can get outside with the girls and play and take walks. We're dying being inside all the time, but my snowpants no longer fit so we can't play in the snow.

  • Right now I just walk the dog a mile 2x a day.

I bought some prenatal yoga sessions on living social, so I'll give those a shot on Sunday afternoons once I get further along.

  • I'm still doing bootcamp 3-4x a week. Its warming up now, so I'll probably jump in the pool a couple days a week too, even if its just to remember how to swim since I haven't been in since like October. I imagine that the farther along I get I'll be swimming more and bootcamping less.

I'm so jealous that you even have the option of swimming right now! Our pool probably won't be open until beginning of May...if we're lucky. I might just need to join a club so I can use their indoor pool.

Its going to be in the mid 70s today. The pool is heated, so I COULD have been swimming all winter, but its outdoor, and I abhor being wet and cold, even if its just long enough to run to the locker room. Sometimes I wish we had actual winters here, but times like these I'm glad we don't.

  • I haven't been doing anything except for stretching lately Huh? I usually am really sick and nauseous at night when I would have time to work out.  I plan to do prenatal yoga and starting next month, I signed up for a prenatal water aerobics class at my hospital.

  • I have just been stretching, doing squats, walking etc. I'm trying to convince DH that he needs to wake me up every morning when he gets up so I am forced to go on a walk rather than sleep each morning.  I figure if I exercise first thing in the AM then I might get hungry enough to actually eat breakfast (since that is the 1 meal I don't really eat)

oh! spinning! that's a great idea!

  • I usually just stick to eliptical/stationary bike/treadmill for cardio with some resistance training using bands. I'm also hoping to sign up for this class at our hospital called "Fit for Delivery" - it's 1 1/2 hours of preggo-friendly workouts and yoga to get our bodies ready for the big day.

On Saturday I decided to mix it up and do a Jillian Michaels workout video I used to do before getting pregnant, and I got so dizzy I almost passed out! I couldn't see anything there were so many spots in my vision - crazy! So I think I'll be backing down to my old routine again. :)

  • I am going to the gym 5 to 6 days a week. I do all classes. I do cardio kick class 3 days, Zumba or sculpt and strength 1 day(this day varies if I actually go or not), and RIPPED 2 days. So I do regular classes. There are about 5 other girls pregnant that I see through out my classes. The Zumba instructor actually taught the class up until her DD 2 weeks ago and is planning on being back in like 3 weeks. I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to do RIPPED so I might replace that class with weights and jogging on the treadmill or time on the elliptical or possibly find a new class to go to not sure yet.
  • I have been walking 2-3 miles most weekdays for the past few weeks.

    I'm going to walk/run a 5K in a few weeks.

  • Everything I did before, really. Yoga, Pilates Weights, Spinning, Swim, Aqua, Dance class.  Whatever, I feel like really.  I get some sort of movement in most days of the week.

Spinning hurts my @$$ so badly!!

I have a TRX in my garage and I do "weight lifting" on that everyday.  I also jump rope and walk or jog with my DS and/or DH.

  • I have just started going back to the gym.   I ride the bike and try to do some upper and lower body strengthening.. all low impact stuff.  My energy is still pretty low and I am still suffering from m/s.  I also plan on signing up for Prenatal Yoga which meets once a week. Since my gym has a indoor pool, it would be nice to add swimming to my workout plan. Jeez, I just got exhausted writing all of this..

  • I've never been into exercising, but i've been fortunate enough to have always been thin naturally. We'll go for walks with our dogs, and I've taken boot camp classes here and there, but I havent stayed on any real consistant exercise routine. I think once Spring gets here I would like to try to take a walk when I get home from work and on the weekends and enjoy the weather :)

  • exercise? what exercise?

lol, I've never, EVER been consistent with exercise. The most I do is walk during spring/summer/fall. But since it's been cold the most I do is run around the house with DD or chase the dog around the neighborhood if she happens to get out.

I guess you can consider cleaning the house exercise. I move at a REALLY fast pace and we have a tri level so I'm up and down the stairs ALL the time.

  • I'm still running (super slow pace) 5-6 times a week and doing upper body lifting. I must say I don't think I'd be exercising as much if we lived in a cold climate! I feel so much better after working out I'm hoping I can continue up until August.

  • I walk the dogs for 20-30 minutes every day, and I try to get on the treadmill for a run (more like a jog these days) for 30-40 minutes at least every other day. I was doing a weight-training class two times a week, but I haven't gotten back into that yet. Once our pool gets warm enough, I can't wait to go swimming!

  • I'm boring and just do walking and yoga.  You can do yoga at home without a program.  I usually do Sun Salutations as they're easy to remember and easy to squeeze in when I only have a few minutes.

Honestly, you can go in year round down here.  I remember plenty of Christmases in Austin where everyone wore shorts as it was 70-80 outside.  I also remember plenty in sweaters as it was 30-50 outside.  You just never quite know what to expect!

  • I haven't been too good about exercise since pregnant - but we go on walks when it's nice, and now that we've moved to CO and are close to good hiking that's now our weekend activity. I'm just sticking to non-strenuous hikes with little elevation gain for the time. I also think I'll start doing nightly lunges and light lifting b/c I feel I've lost some of my muscle lately.
  • Do you have cable?  I do different workouts on Exercise TV On Demand a lot.  Keeps me from getting bored.  I've mostly been walking, but have started lots of stretching and leg lifts per my dr's advice for my sciatic pain.
  • Right now I am just walking a mile or two 4-5 times per week, and some body weight training (push ups, leg lifts, tricep dips...) once it warms up here in Northern CA I plan to ride my bike and swim, and I cannot wait to add something different in!!!

  • My husband just got relocated from Washington DC to a REALLY rural area - haven't even been able to find a decent gym around here.  Right now I do four days/week of walking 3-4 mi around our hilly neighborhood, and three days/week of a prenatal yoga DVD.  On the waiting list to get a membership to the local pool, and the only yoga/pilates studio I've found around here does not work with pregnant women after 1st trimester.  Feeling in a major rut - at the old place I did pilates, yoga, tons of classes, swimming, etc.  Frustrated, but trying to keep my spirits up until I figure something out.

  • I have been doing Zumba at my gym, 3-4 times a week. Then on my off days I have been doing one of two prenatal videos I bought online. I have prenatal pilates and this other fit and firm prenatal cardio/ toning video. I was doing kickboxing and spin class at my gym, but I found that they raised my HR higher than my OB wants it to be. I know I can just slow down or modify, but I have a hard time doing that when I'm in a big class.

Especially at Decker Lake where the water is warmed by the power plant on the other side of the lake. Its like bath water year round. Lake Pflugerville not so much ;)

  • 3 days a week i use my elliptical and i do some light lifting.
  • I hear you on the roads! I can't wait to be able to really walk again.

Right now I just walk the dog about 20 minutes in the am when its not icy or snowing/raining. At night I try to do the Wii Fit for about 30 minutes 4 times a week. For a could more weeks I have to go to the barn where my horse is after work and when I am there is about 40 minutes of walking, lifting, shoveling and just generally moving around.

I haven't made it to the gym in ages because my gym is in my office building. I am usually too tired when I get out of work at 3 to go. I get a second wind abour 5:30 at night so that's what I get the Wii out.

  • I've been running 3 miles 2-3x a week and I teach spin 1x a week.  I wish I could do more, but this pregnancy has been so tiring on me.
  • I was playing in a volleyball league from November up until like 2 weeks ago. Now I do swimming lessons with DD once a week and we are trying to go to family swim too (I'm sore after because it's really hard to hold dd in the water, she is super squirmy. Other than that, I love to take walks around the neighborhood but we've only had a few very warm days. I think in a few weeks here it should be getting into the 50s an warm enough for me to take walks. I have just started feeling better, also.

Right now I'm doing a couple DVDs at home - prenatal yoga and the Summer Sanders prenatal workout.  I try to do each once a week.  Hopefully I'll get back to walking as I start feeling better.

  • I find I feel soooo much better on days I exercise, so that is what helps me get over the hump of starting each day!  I was an endurance runner prepregnancy, so now I go for a jog/walk nearly every day, listen to my body, and only workout at an intensity that feels right.  I also do pilates a couple times a week, and that really helps strengthen my core (which will be helpful for pushing!), and helps my pelvis maintain a healthy alignment now that my ligaments are all loosey-goosey.

Good luck finding an exercise routine that works for you...you'll feel great when you start one!
