What's the longest DC has run a fever?

DS1 spiked a fever Wednesday and its still going.   It's been medicated with motrin but sure enough 1-2 hours before his next dose, it goes back up.   He just started an antibotic.  I thought it was cold/flu like DS2 had but DS1's turned into bronchitis according to the doctor at the clinic this morning.  It just seems like so long and he is just so sadly sick...generally, he is somewhat fine when he motrin kicks it.

  • When Michelle had vasculitis she ran fevers for 9 days.  The last 5 days I was able to control it with meds.  The first 4 days were rough because it was spiking to 105 degrees.

  • Reid had a weeklong fever that sounded exactly the same- would spike back up as the Tylenol wore off. I had him in to the pedi's three times and then they sent us to the ER for every test under the sun. Everything came back fine and the fever went away on its own. I've since heard about a bunch of kids having this virus that lingers for a week or so. It was pretty awful.

  • Yep, we were at the MD twice this week for fevers (once for my 4 year old and once for my 5 month old).  They both tested postive for the flu (neither got flu shots b/c DS1 is allergic to eggs and DD is too young).  Both ran fevers for 7 days (my 4 year old was 103 and up most days).  The rest of the family had flu shots and have all been fine.  Our pedi said that they have been seeing a lot of this... • DD has run a fever for close to a week when she gets pneumonia.

  • My oldest just started a fever on Wednesday and FINALLY went down today.  It would go up, then down, then up, then down.  It was so annoying.  She also started an antibiotic on Wednesday that really didn't help.

We only gave tylenol when the fever was over 102.

  • Sorry N's been so sick!!  Poor kid!

DD#1 ran a fever for 7 days straight when she had H1N1 about a year ago.  It was miserable.  It did go down on days 3 and 4 to about 100 but then spiked back up to 103 on day 5 and we had to go in for more testing to make sure she didn't have pneumonia or anything.  It was somewhere around day 8 or 9 before her fever broke.  Not sure if your DS will be the same, but it was at least 2-3 weeks before she was back to 100%.  I heard that was common with H1N1, though, so it could have been that more than the fevers for so long.

  • DS 1 had a fever for 6 days last month.  No cold symptoms or anything, just a high fever (up to 104.5) and night sweats.  He was totally fine as long as he was medicated with Ibuprofen, but when it was time for another dose, the fever would spike, and he'd turn into a limp rag again.

  • Nine days of 105. He gets what we call the "fever virus" about three times a year where he runs 104 temps for 7-8 days. That time was the worst with the longest duration and highest temps. Each time he has a fever and no other symptoms. The first three times it happened when he was young they did every blood test, culture and even a catheter to get urine for testing. Everything came back normal. It's just the way his body reacts to that virus.
