Cough Med ??...help!

Anyone know what I can take for a terrible cough? Ive been sick for 2 weeks now, and I am SO tired of coughing !! Im coughing up mucous, and TRYING not to take anything just wait it out-- but I am sick & tired of coughing and having a plugged nose! Help! anyone have any idea? I go to the DR wed... but I dont know if I can wait til then.

Anyone seen my lung ? =/

As far as I know your not supose to take anything. I know its not the same but have a cup of warm water with lemon and honey. Try that until you see your doc. I think its better not to take anything until its approved by the doc.

My doctor's office OK'd Robitussin. I'd call the on-call doc to double check if you can take it, though.

My list has Robitussin on it too. I've had a really bad cough for over a week too and it sucks! Robitussin hasn't really made it go away, but maybe minimizes the cough sometimes. I don't take it a lot because even though the doc said it was fine it still makes me nervous taking anything.

Robitussin was on my list as well. I took it last month when I had the flu and it did make me feel a little better. It just took away the hard, deep cough that I was having. It didn't really help with the mucus or stuffiness... For that I took Sudafed PE. That was also on my list. It needs to be the plain Sudafed though. Hope you feel better!

Ditto PP...Robitussin was on my list too. It helped me a couple weeks ago when I had the flu.

Robitussin is on my safe list too. The problem with it is that it's an expectorant (which makes you cough more - it encourages the phlegm to break up and be coughed out) as opposed to a cough suppressant. I'm pretty sure there aren't any cough suppressants on my safe list

Have you tried a humidifier, a warm shower before bed, and hot tea with honey and lemon? That's about all that worked for me

Get some Vicks vapo-rub, and put a good thick coating on the soles of your feet before bed, put socks on, and it helps quiet your cough. A humidifier also helped me, too.

PLAIN Robitussin was ok'd by my doc, as well as my pharmacist. They said not to take it unless you really needed it though (i.e. don't just take it every 4 hours because that's what the bottle says). Also, they said to just try 1 tsp at a time: if that didn't work, try one more tsp. Drinking lots of water also helps thin out the mucus.
