Success after IF

XP from PAIF: Belly bands?

I have this belly band from Motherhood Maternity, and....I hate it! Way too loose to hold anything up and too wide to look nice, even if I fold it in half.

I am not a small girl, so I wasn't expecting it to be loose when I bought it. Now that I'm 14 weeks and people are commenting that I'm showing, it should have tightened up but it hasn't.

Anyone else have this problem? Should I try another brand, or are bands just not for me?

Re: XP from PAIF: Belly bands?

  • From what I remember, I just used them to hold up pants when it became too uncomfortable to button them... but I wasn't ready to wear maternity yet.  Are we talking about the same thing?

It was definitely snug, but not crazy tight.  I think I got mine at an outlet mall somewhere, can't even remember where.  But, I'd try a smaller size if the one you have is too loose.  I only wore them in the beginning before I was ready to move to maternity stuff.

After THREE years, our IVF miracle is here!!!

  • Neither brand name or others worked for me, but I carry extra weight in my lower abdomen.

They suck... I always had them falling down, not where they needed to be. BLEH!

Yes, that's what I'm talking about!

My MM one says "one size fits all" which didn't worry me since, like I said, I'm not little. (Of course, it was in plastic, couldn't try it on and of course not returnable) I figured if I waited it I would eventually grow into it, but by the time that happens I'll be more than big enough for regular maternity stuff.

I didn't know other brands came in different sizes, but that makes sense now. It confirms my suspicion that I bought the wrong brand.

I'm on the small side and mine was plenty snug.  Could there be something wrong with the one you bought?  I'd either take it back and ask them... that's what they are there for.  You can try it on in front of them and see what they say.  Or, maybe try another brand.

I wouldn't waste too much money on it though... you probably won't need it long!

No, it doesn't look defective or anything, and it's unreturnable. I've had it too long anyway (it was an impulse purchase after IVF #1 which was a BFN)

According to the Baby Bargains book, MM clothes are low quality so I'm guessing this band just another low-quality product. Wish I'd read that before I bought the band. Oh well, live and learn.

  • They sell some at Target.  Maybe they're called Be Bands?  I forget...  Anyway, I really liked them and they came in sizes.  I had a hand-me-down Bella Band from my sister and I found them comensurate.

I wore them early on but I also used them late in my pg when nothing fit and I didn't want the panel of my maternity pants hanging out.

ETA:  It seems like people really like them or hate them.  Maybe they aren't for you, but it might not hurt to try on a different brand just to be sure.

As a matter of fact, a couple of PAIF girls just recommended the BeBand. I need to go to Target anyway, so I think I'm gonna nab one while I'm there :)

  • I used Bella Bands and they worked pretty well.  I have two gently used ones - one white and one black.  I could mail them to you if you want to pm me your address.
