Gas Pains or Contractions??

So this is my first and I have been having sharp pains on my sides for weeks now.  What do BH feel like and what do real contractions feel like?  I keep blaming it all on gas, but I'm unsure.  These pains stop me in my tracks and sometimes when I push on where the pain is, it'll help a bit but other times, WHOA.  I feel like I should know when it's a contraction but I dont.  Are contrations sharp or are they crampy??

    if you have to ask, it's not contractions. those are consistent whereas gas is constant.

    If your belly gets rock hard at the same time it may be contractions.  My mom always compared contractions to gas pains and when I went through it I totally agreed.  Really, really bad gas pains. Like the worst you've ever had.
