Success after IF

Were your LO's 4 mo shots worse than the 2 mo shots?

A's 4 month well baby & shots are tomorrow. although I went alone to the 2 month appt & DH is coming with me tomorrow...I'm still nervous. I hate seeing her get the shots - she's caught so off guard, then she starts screaming. :(

Re: Were your LO's 4 mo shots worse than the 2 mo shots?

  • Not at all!  I am pretty sure they were actually the same exact round of shots.

  • Kate's 4 month were worse than her 2 month and her 6 month were worse than the 4 month.

But, gauging from the monh boards, this is very abnormal.  And we all know Kate is a "special snowflake" when it comes to medical things.

Good luck and I hope A does well with the shots!

  • Not at all. Actually my kids got better each time by the time we had our 6 month shots they didn't even cry. Even now they don't cry!

  • He cried w/ the 4 but not as bad as the 2. And with the 2, he cried for a few days after and wouldn't eat. Didn't happen with the 4. And if I remember correctly it's the same shots. My advice is to give her acetaminophen. Noah can take .8 so I gave him .4 before and after and then .8 4 hours later. I think it helped a lot.

  • The shots were the same, his physical reaction was much worse. He spiked a fever in the middlemof the night, I made my only middle of the night call to the pediatrician that night.

I think that reaction to the vaccines is worse the second time because after the first round of shots, the body has started to build it's defense. The second round of shots brings the defense out to do it's job.

You may want to get some Pedialyte to have on hand. If a fever gets high enough, BM or formula does not sit well in their tummies. I was not prepared and wish I had been. My DH was deployed and my parents, who had been helping me daily, were on their first getaway since LO's birth. Great timing! LOL!

It will be fine and hopefully your LO does not react, but, better to be over prepared. Keep us posted!!

  • In terms of the actual shots, I can't remember, but I think their reactions were worse for the 4 month (fussy, etc).  However, after 4 months, they didn't seem to have issues after their shots (except for MMR, but that's another story...they had some of the typical reactions 10 days after their MMR).
