I absolutely love the name, but I ruined it for myself because when I got my miniature dachshund I named her Lola. Lol. I think it's adorable for a little girl. I'm mad at myself... But when I got her, she looked like a Lola and I've always loved the name. Haha.
I love it! It's not very popular where I live - only have met one little girl in our playgroup by the name and she's so cute the name fits her perfect!

I am a big fan of Lola, even with the song playing in my head. I actually mentioned it to MH the other day becuase Madonna's daughter was on ET and her name is Lourdes, but they call her Lola. I thought it was the cutest thing and it has officially gotten onto our list.
I now have the song in my head. Love the song and like the name, but the association of the song with the name is not positive, sadly....when the most famous association of the name is as a man....I couldn't use it.
I absolutely love it but I'm biased because it was my great grandmother's name and I would love to use it for our little girl's name but DH isn't so keen on it. As pp said I think it's one of the classic names that is cute for a little girl but still appropriate for an adult.
The song by Sarah Vaughn "Whatever Lola Wants" always comes to mind when I hear that name. I think of a raspy voiced middle aged woman with a cigarette in one hand and martini in the other singing in a lounge.

As much as I love Sarah Vaughn and would credit her with anything, the song is from Damn Yankees. Lola is a character from the musical- the devil in a sexy lady form
I love the other Lola song, too, but even so I say go for it! I like the name.

Very true. I just always here her singing it. Her and Eartha Kitt.
Re: Thoughts on the name Lola
Still sing the song, every single time!
And, as a teacher, I had a student named Lola last year. She was everything I envisioned a Lola to be!

Her name is Lola Mae.
Ditto.
I also think of Lola Beltran, she's a Mexican actress and singer from way back in the day (1940's through 1960's)

Lola in my native language is the respective term and what we call our grandmothers. So nay for me.
Also as a first name, I don't know why the word promiscuous comes to mind. eeek! sorry! nms.

As soon as I saw the name...the Kings song popped into my head...I fear it will now be there for a while.
Aside from that, I actually do like the name.
