  • Yes, prefolds and covers are less expensive. That's what we primarily use. Ebay is generally not a great place to get diapers. However, you can try diaperswappers.com as a better place to get diapers for less than full, new price.

We did the trial at jilliansdrawers.com, and I found that site helpful in just figuring out what's what with cloth diapers.

    Good luck!

  • We are using prefolds and covers and we spent less than $200 for everything we need.  We have 18 prefolds, 12 contours and 3 covers and I do laundry every 2-3 days.  We bought liners, diaper dust, crunchy clean, a large wet bag and a small wet bag.  I use mostly pins, but we do have a snappi that I use occasionally.  I do get tempted to buy other diapers, but am trying to abstain.  I am going to buy a couple wool covers and maybe some fitteds for nighttime diapering and expect to pay around $100-150 for that.  Let me know if you have any questions.
  • what is a liner?do you like the snappi or pins better? aren't wool covers itchy? what is a fitted? what are wet bags for?

    thank you

  • My original budget was $300.  I got 14 prefolds, 3 thirties covers, 3 bg 3.0s, 1 fuzzibunz, 1 kck, 1 organic bg aio, 1 under the nile fitted and 1 thirstie fab fitted and 3 snappis.  I have since added 6 more prefolds and 2 more aio (maybe $60 more?). I do laundry every 2 or 3rd day (I have enough for 3 days, but usually start laundry on the night of day 2 to allow air drying time). I bought all new, but could have bought most of it used on diaperswappers and saved money.  I think the diapers that would have been hard to find are my gmd prefolds (brown size).  I have not seen many available on ds.

Fitteds are diapers that need covers.

I have never used pins, my snappis work great.

Wet bags are for your dirty diapers.  I just use an old pillow case but would love a wet bag.  Maybe for Christmas.

  • A liner is a biodegradable liner you put inside the prefold when poops start getting too yucky and needs to be flushed.  I personally like the pins better-they seem to give me more control over the fit of the diapers.  The wool covers (at least what I have been told) are not itchy and are great for breathablity.  A fitted is a diaper that still needs a cover, but is easier to put on-kind of like a disposable.  A wet bag is where you put the dirty diapers for.  Some people use a pail & liner, but we just use the wet bag.
  • I bought all new at Cottonbabies...
  • thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  • Another way to do it on a budget, or too add some different kinds of diapers is to sign up on jilliansdrawers and cottonbabies websites for their newsletters. I got a bunch of Bum Genius 3.0s from CottonBabies seconds sale, and there was nothing wrong with them at all. Jillians sells gently used diapers from their trial program at a discount. And like someone else suggested, check diaperswappers as well.

Prefolds & covers are definetly the cheapeast way to go new, though.

  • We love our prefolds, and how inexpensive they are! Snappis are the best, for sure- I'm so glad I don't have to worry about poking myself or DS while changing him when I'm only half awake. We love fleece covers as an alternate to wool, and diaperswappers.com can help you find some great deals (even on new CDs) if you look around.?
  • great! thanks for the reply:)

  • There are several ladies on the EFF etsy site that make diapers and diaper accessories (crunchy clean, diaper dust, covers, etc...).  They are all great and spend tons of time answering CD questions!!  Hmm- I can't seem to find where I bookmarked it, but I'm sure one of them has the link close by!!  I bet they'll post it for you!!  In the meantime, I'll keep looking!  HTH!!
