Rice cereal at 2 months to help STTN??

So today at LO's 2 month check up I brought up that she still wakes every 2 hours at night to eat. I thought that by now we would be going more like 3 hours.  He said to add a little rice cereal to a bottle of bm at night (she is EBF).  I'm not so sure I want to do this...advice?? 

I have read that some babies get rice cereal that early for their reflux and I understand that, but this just doesnt seem right to me.

Oh, and her 'adjusted age' is just 5 weeks.  She was 9 lb 10 oz. today if that makes a difference.

This is dated advice and I would seriously consider a new pedi if I had gotten this advice (and I am not quick to suggest this in the least bit).

Every child is different with how much they sleep/eat and how quickly they stretch out those hours through the night.  I know it's easy for me to sit here and say - but be patient with your LO and she will figure out the sleep thing as time goes on.  DS didn't STTN for a looooooong time - I know it's exhausting and it would be better if we had answers to make it better but I really, truly believe that rice cereal in a bottle is poor medical advice.

In Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child they showed a study that introducing solid foods had nothing to do with sleeping through the night.  It was just an age thing.  I'm guessing since  yours was early that Lo will STTN later.  I agree with OP.

This.  I'm a pediatric dietitian and we advise against adding rice cereal or any solids to a bottle.  The only thing meant to go in a bottle is breastmilk or formula!  Also, as a PP said, there is no evidence that adding solids to the bottle helps at all with getting babies to STTN. 

It always disturbs me when I hear pediatricians still giving this outdated advice.

My "gut" reaction was that this was bad advice. The doctor isn't that old of a dude (probably mid-50's).  I hate that he told me this, but I'm glad that I 'knew better' and will NOT be following his advice.

I add rice cereal to my LO's bottles because of his reflux.  We've tried breastmilk and almost every formula out there and he spits most of each feeding up (literally).  We are on day 3 of Alimentum and he is still spitting up, but we've been told to give it 2-3 weeks to make a difference.  I was not and am still not completely comfortable with giving him the cereal so young, but it keeps his food down and stops liquid from coming out of his nose EVERY feeding which makes him uncomfortable.

By the way, having cereal in my LO's bottle did not help him STTN.

I wouldn't.  Each baby is different.  My LO still doesn't sttn.  Getting better though
