discharge, should I call OB?

Sorry in advance if any of this is TMI. I just went pee and when I wiped the toilet paper was clean but I felt like something was down there still. I reached down with my finger and pulled out a glob of what I think is discharge. It was clear with a few white streaks in it and was globby and jelly like (sorry). Almost like that glue that's on the back of like samples and stuff that comes from businesses in the mail. It strecthed far and had NO smell. I'd say it was the size of a dime. I then proceeded to get out more, about three, more pieces each smaller then the other. I don't know what it is and don't know if it could be my mucus plug? This is my first pregnancy and I just worry about every little thing. Also I don't know if this could be it but last night me and my DH had sex so maybe it could be *** that has dried up a bit? I don't know if I should call my OB. Anyone have any experience with this? TIA if your still reading and sorry again if TMI

Re: discharge, should I call OB?

  • It sounds like leukorrhea to me...I have had this discharge since my 1st trimester! It's perfectly normal - it softens the cervix to get ready for labor and also protects your womb from infection. I would suggest getting a big pack of pantiliners...I go through at least 2 a day now Embarrassed I don't think you have much to worry about - when my OB did my last physical exam she had to swab me because of the discharge and she told me that it's perfectl normal/healthy to have it. If you are still worried it doesn't hurt to ask your OB!

This is a great article that explains it too:

  • Don't worry about TMI - that pretty much ceases to exist once you become pregnant lol.  Anyway, sounds fine to me.  Having creamy or EWCM (egg-white cervical mucous) is very common in pregnancy and having lots of it is very common.  I have to wear a pantyliner ever day during pregnancy because of it.  As long as there's no itch, pain, burning or other discomfort and it doesn't smell strange, you're fine :)  HTH.

  • Like the others said, you are fine. I just asked my nurse about this. She said it is a good thing and that your hormones are working.
  • Don't worry. I get the exact same stuff the day after every single time DH and I have sex (this is really TMI, but as someone who doesn't know a lot about the nomenclature for CM, it's the consistency of snot/nasal mucus, right?). The first time it happened I, a FTM also, panicked and thought it was my mucus plug.  Then I called my OB and managed to convince her of the same thing, so she had me come in the same day and to check my cervix.  Of course, everything was totally fine both on the x-ray and pelvic exam.  She laughed at both herself and me, told me that unless there was blood next time I should not worry (oh, and admonished me to stop.googling.every.symptom Embarrassed).

  • Everything I have read said that increased discharge is 100% normal & expected.

I get a lot of discharge. I really need to wear more pantyliners (p.s I HATE that word)

  • yeah I've been having the same thing since I was 6 weeks pregnant and it's justten worse. Once it was so bad a few weeks ago I felt like I peed my pants, but like everyone else is saying, it's totally normal and that your body is just getting ready for the baby!!!

  • I wouldn't worry unless the color was odd or there was a bad smell. Also, you can lose your mucous plug and your body regenerates it. I don't know if that happens this early in pregnancy, though.
