LO's lumbar puncture scheduled for tomorrow

So so much to do! Getting packed and ready for Aiden's hospital visit tomorrow. His lumbar puncture is not until 2. But, he has a neuro appt before that...plus over a 2 hr drive there. Since he will be sedated he cant eat or drink....(well he can have 6 ounces of juice at noon)...but besides that nothing after 6am. Should be a fun drive and dr appt. Still have so much to do to get ready.  I feel so rushed to get everything done now that I am working.  I dont have the whole day before to plan and get ready for days like this.  I am happy though that the ped sedation team will be working with us.  Since we are going through them- I get to be there as they put him to sleep and when they wake him up (we havent been able to do that since he was an infant.)  So, I am comforted by this (one less thing to worry about- no matter how many times I tell them they always try to give him thin liquids upon waking- before I am called back...even though he aspirates on thin liquids.  I am happy to know I will be able to prevent this!)  Good thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Hope everything goes well! How did you get them to let you be there when he's falling asleep? DD has major trauma issues and always resists sedation until they've gone WAY over what they're supposed to. Every time I've tried to explain this its been negated, but I really think if they'd let me hold her hand for the initial dose, they'd use way less and everyone would be better for it.

    We'll be thinking of you!!

Thank you!  I didnt even ask them.  With this childrens hospital it depends on the dept you are being sedated in.  When he was younger and had sedated tests we were with the peds sedation team (same as today)....they have different protocol than the rest of childrens hospital (ie- in the OR).  We just lucked out!

  • Thanks everyone!!  It went well.  He had a hard time with sedation- they had to use a lot to put him to sleep.  But, actual procedure went well.  Not sure how long we will wait for results.  Neuro wants to see him again in 3 months (if results are normal....if not normal we will see him sooner).  He also wants us to see the new movement specialist they have before then.  So, we see her in about a month.  All in all the staff were awesome today!  Little guy is irritable...but was a trooper!
