I'm going to attempt to cosleep with our son tonight because I flat out can not sleep with him on the couch...I'm too afraid I'm going to drop him. When you cosleep with a newborn, are you simply laying them in bed with you, or do you have to buy some sort of mattress extension? I've read about it online and it seems to indicate that the baby sleeps in the middle of the bed, between the two parents...not sure how well that will work since my husband and I are so big.
Re: Okay, how exactly do you "cosleep"?
We have a king sized bed as well, but my husband loves to take it over
Hehe.
I think I'm going to give this a shot tonight. I need sleep at night! I was able to sleep from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today since my husband is staying home the rest of the week.
before dd started rolling over, i would just sleep very close to dh and keep dd on the other side of me.
now that she's bigger and can roll, she's in the middle of dh and i but up above our heads without any pillows.
most of the time, i sleep topless so i can nurse her while we sleep. i tuck her under my arm (switching sides throughout the night) and she can nurse as she pleases .
I do not co-sleep, bu the safer way to do it is to use a co-sleeper that you either place next to the bed (similar to a pack n play) or one that lays on your bed with you like this:

It is not safe to have the baby sleeping without these things, especially if you are sleep deprived. You could roll onto the baby and suffocate him.
There are several ways and all need their own safety precautions. Here is a good article to get you started:

He sleeps in between DH and I.
When he was a newborn, he slept in the crook of my arm.
