So what did you guys think about the show last night?

 That vacuum delivery is supposed to be extremely dangerous to the baby. I hope if i'm not able to speak up Hubby would step in and say something.

I don't watch it. Or a baby story. or bringing home baby. 

Seeing all the unnecessary interventions and crap makes me stabby.

 

That said, vacuum extraction has it's risks, just like every other intervention, but it's not usually "dangerous". Had you said forceps, I'd agree with you, but the risks with vacuum delivery just aren't as serious.

Oh I love those shows. ALL. OF. THEM. I like to know as much as possible before doing anything. Hence the reason I'm on all these boards.

 I get chills just thinking about having that done. One girl for her first pregnancy on the show had to have the forceps used. Either way if they are telling me they have to go about another method I think I would panic.

watching lifetime/TLC shows about childbirth is going to give you an EXTREMELY skewed sense of childbirth, as well as ton of false information. 

I was given the choice of forceps or c/s with DD. I chose the c/s and I would do it again every time.

Vacuum extraction isn't what I would call dangerous. Forceps delivery is. Vacuum extraction has its place. I had to have one with my first DD, her heart rate was dropping but she was right there. The ford was around her neck when she came out. My ob is really good aboutlow interventions so I trusted her judgment at that moment.

OMG thank god she's alright. That's a good point, you have to have faith in your doctor. I know mine would never put me or my child in harms way. 

 

I think it's all a matter of opinion with those shows. If you watch them thinking omg all this is going to happen to me, then yes that person shouldn't watch them. I watch them for what they, are a form of entertainment in an area that I will soon be a part of. I mean, when I was planning my wedding I was right in there with Bridezilla laughing my ass off with the trash that floated through that show. It's just nice to see when it comes to pregnancy is that you're not alone. Pain is inevitable and everyone's story is heroic in some way.

I couldn't watch this show if I hadn't gone through L&D already myself! I would be scared that everything or something bad would happen to me. For those who are in their 1st pregnancy and watching this show, you are brave!

I think I watch it out of curiousity but at the same time, I watch a lot of those shows and read A LOT because I like to know what's going on with my body and my child and what could happen. I know it's "bad" to read about all the things that could go wrong but I figure it's better than being in the dark about it!
