LOLing a little at daycare ratios

So, the ratio in our house is 3:1 (when only one adult is home, of course). And our living room looked like a day care in the early days, with 3 bouncers, 3 swings, etc. We couldn't have survived without all the equipment to keep babies occupied!

Of course I totally understand everyone worrying about babies being stuck in swings/bouncers all day, but I promise they're going to be ok!

Re: LOLing a little at daycare ratios

  • They are not in swings/bouncers all day.  The DC we are at now only has one bouncer for 12 babies, no swings, no exersaucers.  We are going to a different DC in April and I think they only have one exersaucer.  I think MH puts the boys in exersaucers a lot more on weekends when he's on duty!

I had a LOT of reservations sending my boys to DC - but I'm a total convert.  I think the key point to realize it's not a 1:4 ratio, it's a 3:12 (or whatever multiples of) ratio.  So if caregiver A has 2 crying babies while caregiver B has 3 napping babies, caregiver B usually crosses over and gives caregiver A a hand.  It's a team effort there.

I love love love our DCP.... we just can't stay there forever. :(

  • This may make no sense, but it is different in your own home.  I don't know why, but it is.  We have all those things here, too. And i know m sitch is different 1 baby vs 3, but we both love our kids- that is not the case necessarily at a daycare.

I understand. I felt that way when hiring a babysitter.

    ((hugs))
