*I know the correct term is 'sex,' but I couldn't figure out how to word it and not sound ludicrous. Sorry!
So, I haven't even gotten a guess yet, but my anatomy scan is @ 18 weeks, and I'm already hearing the stories of women told one thing only to have another show up in the delivery room! I know it's never absolutely 100% accurate, and I know that with a clear shot, you shouldn't have anything to worry about, but still! I'm starting to wonder if I should get an elective u/s later just to confirm pink or blue!
Ladies who know (or those who don't yet), do you worry if the doctor guessed wrong?? Even though the only gender-specific thing we'll have is clothing, I'd HATE to find out we have a closet full of clothes the 'wrong color!'
Re: Do you worry about a wrong gender guess?
Mommy's little helper
With DD I had my anatomy scan at 21wks 4days and the way she was positioned they were able to see her from the bottom and she was NOT shy.
This time I will be exactly 21 wks. I don't mind waiting because it will be more accurate. Hopefully this one will be as easy to see as DD was.
What happens if someone can't afford or doesn't want to pay for an elective u/s? Will they not let them deliver at the hospital?
With DS the ultrasound tech asked if we wanted to know and my answer was, "yes, but only if you are sure" I know that it can still end up being wrong, but I felt more comfortable as long as the tech felt very sure. And she was right for the record
I will do the same again this time.

it's rare that they make mistakes these days. it happens, but not often.
w/my son it was VERY obvious. i saw the pictures and either he was a boy or there was something drastically wrong! lol.
Red, you're in NS aren't you?
They can deliver at the hospital no problem, it's just that many hospitals in what looks like Atlantic Canada (not sure about the rest) have policies about telling mother's the sex from an ultrasound. I guess there have been mistakes in the past (I know of one) where the mom was told girl and out came a boy!
In my province, Newfoundland and Labrador some hospitals on the island (Newfoundland) won't tell you, but the hospital where I live in Labrador will. There is only one place to get an elective 3D/4D u/s done in this province and that's in the capital city so it's not accessible to a lot of people that live in rural parts of the province.
I think what she meant was that the radiology tech at the hospital is not allowed to inform you of the gender, not that you won't find out when you actually deliver the baby at the hospital.
I'm not too worried. This is why I make sure to have at least one outfit for the opposite gender for the homecoming outfit and a few neutral ones on hand at home. Mistakes happen, and really it isn't a huge deal if they're wrong. Your boy won't be scarred for life if he has to sleep in pink bedding and a girl really won't care that she had to sleep in blue or wear a few football themed outfits before you could get to the store to buy some hair bows
