I am in the same boat, Colin/Collin is the current front runner for us it it's a boy (altho that will change tomorrow lol). I like the Colin spelling better, but I'm worried about the colon reference as well.

I think Colin is the original, and general looks "cleaner," but I'm with YH----I always subconsciously pronounce it "colon" first. I don't think it's at risk for being mispronounced, though.
I prefer Colin... but like you said, both are accepted these days. Colin Powell is the only Colin I have ever heard of to pronounce it like that. Weird, imo. I know several Colin's and no one would ever say "Colon" to them.

Our son's name is Colin, and he has never once been called colon. I thnk Colin is a well enough known name that people don't mistake it.
