So I called my OB's office to see if my letter had been sent out yet since I hadn't heard back about my b/w results. Apparently it was just sent out today (finally!) and they said the b/w came back "normal". I asked for numbers and she said she could only see odds for downs and trisomy 18 written down on there but the odds seemed high to me! Especially the Trisomy.
DS: 1 in 700
Trisomy 18: Less than 1 in 100
That seems high for "normal". My NT measurement was only 1.2 as well. I know the b/w only shows odds and isn't complete until the 2nd round of b/w but still. Interesting!
::::Update::::
I just wanted to update. My DH ended up calling back for me (I was at work and don't have a private office, so didn't want to argue on the phone. He was on the road so it was easy for him). Anyway, he asked for our OB specifically, but they said hes out on vaca, so he was sent to the same nurse. She immediately gave him the same attitude she gave me, and he cut her off and literally said "I'm sorry, is this a bad time for you?" and probably a few other things as well. Basically, WE are the patient and you are the nurse and you will answer our questions or we will speak to someone about you. According to DH she got real nice after that. He thinks shes stressed with having to answer everyones questions while our OB isn't there, but that doesn't give her an excuse to be annoyed with every phone call, and push people around.
ANYWAY she explained to DH the #'s she gave me were the "cut off" and my b/w was better than those cut off numbers, therefore "passing/normal". She doesn't know what my actual numbers are and won't until after the part 2 b/w.
I don't know WHY she couldn't explain that to me but I am glad everything is OK.
Re: NT Scan B/W results ::update::
I am wondering if thats what she meant because less than 1 in 100 isn't really that great, but up front she said b/w was totally normal. So maybe she meant 1 in 1000. Maybe I should call back to clarify.
Hmmm... Did you already have the second round of b/w? Was that factored in? If not, I think I would wait to get the letter and then see what the second round of b/w tells them.
We weren't given odds until both rounds of b/w were completed. And, even then, they only give odds for DS, and all of my other tests were 'negative.'
Good Luck! I'm thinking of you...
I think this is why my doctor doesn't give you any results until after the 2nd BW. They told me the NT scan measurement, but didn't give me any indication of what it meant, because its pretty much meaningless without 2 sets of BW.
I had a friend recently go through this and ended up having an amnio and everything is fine. She's only a month ahead of me. Don't worry until there is actually something to worry about.
I posted my update above, apparently the #'s I was given weren't my actual #'s, just that those were the "cut off" and my #'s were better than that. I haven't had part 2 b/w yet, next week I think!
