Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I'm in a foul mood this morning.

I spent most of yesterday on the road bringing the girls home (It's a 4-5 hour trip from my house to my parents house and back.).

Sunday night, BIL called and asked if he could bring his family over last night to see the girls.  We said sure and to be there around 3:30 or 4.  BIL said "No problem. We'll see you by 4."

I got home yesterday at 3:15 and was madly dashing around the house putting stuff away/doing laundry/generally straightening up while DH kept an eye on the girls.

3:30 comes and goes, no BIL.

4:00 comes and goes, No BIL.

BIL and family finally roll in at 6:30.  6:30.  3 hours after he said he'd be there.  There was no good reason for him to be that late.

We made dinner for them and they were done eating by 7:30 at the latest.  The girls were starting to freak out a bit because they'd gone from a very calm and peaceful weekend to a much more frenetic household, at least for the time being.

BIL is a talker.  About 9PM, the girls were on their last legs.  DH and I started their bedtime routine (final bottle, change into jammies, turning down the lights and the music, etc.) and still BIL didn't get the picture.  DH and I changed into our jammies and he still didn't get the picture.  DH and I told him we needed to get the girls to bed and go to bed ourselves but he wouldn't leave

Then, the final straw.  I was pretty pissed off at this point and I go into the kitchen to find BIL eating my cake.  The cake we had gotten on Sunday night for our Valentine's Day dinner/dessert and didn't get a chance to eat.

In the 10 seconds it took for me to see that and DH to tell him "Dude, you don't want to eat her cake.", I was trying to figure out where I was going to hide the body.

Finally BIL and family took off around 10:30.  It took us another 2 hours to get the girls settled down enough to sleep.  Then they woke up at 2 AM and 4 AM because they were still pretty upset and unable to sleep.

So I'm in a foul mood this morning and I needed to vent.

  • Ugh, I'd be in a foul mood too.  WTF would your BIL think that behavior is appropriate?  Sorry you had such a rough evening.  Hopefully you and the girls can get back on track today.

  • I'm sorry you're in such a foul mood. It just amazes me how people don't seem to care whether or not other people's children sleep.

My family is a family of farmers. I could help if you needed it. Fertilizer is good Big Smile

  • Wow.  That is rude.  I don't know why, but it never ceases to amaze me that people can be so unbelieveably clueless.  Hope your day gets better.
  • You DIDN'T kill him?  You're a better person than me.

  • After a few nights recently when family (DH's) pulled that kind of sh!t. We made a rule. No visitors from 4pm on. It's waaay too psycho around our house at that time at this point. DH gets home from work at 4 and we just go go go until the boys are in bed at 7pm. They get really wrangy early evening and I can not handle people in my house when they're freaking out.

Lock the door next time if he's not on time. I would have helped hide the body as well. People are the suck.

ETA: Who eats someone else's cake?? That's lame. I'd get stabby.

  • I hate when people have no respect for your time. I have a good friend that I always shave have "plans" ready for after she is supposed to leave so that she LEAVES.

     Ugh.

    The cake is just wrong.

  • Who just goes into someone's kitchen and eats their cake?!?  I assume untouched cake?!?  I'm livid for you.

  • To answer some questions: Yes, he is that dense.  He always has been.  It's a trait of DH's immediate family and I (thankfully) have broken DH of it.

Dude. The cake was in the fridge behind the milk in a to-go container.  He had to dig for it.

  • Ugh!  Next time you must say, "ok we're getting ready for bed now so you have to leave".  And just hold the door open.  I'd be livid about the cake too!!!!!

  • Ugh, some people are so stupid. Luckily those who comes to visit us are pretty respectful.

I would have been SCREAMING at him for touching my cake. It's one thing to ask "can I have some cake" when it's visible. But digging for it and just eating it without asking. HELL NO.

  • I'm sorry! I hate rude people!!  SO's family came over the other day and were SOOO loud and would not leave, I HAD THE FLU! and they just hung out at my house being rude, I hate them.

And eating your cake? what is up with that?! I'd be PISSED!

  • I would be livid, too.  Fortunately, my BIL and his band of unruly children live out of state, but I can see them doing something like this to us, too.  Their kids never had a bedtime, a schedule, or any structure and just don't get why it's important that things happen at X or Y time and not before or after.  MIL and FIL are just starting to get it.  We were over on Sunday and I was scared to death they were going to try and wake the babies so BIL & SIL could see them via Skype.

Eating someone else's cake is a capital offense in my book.
