What do you think this is about?

Tyler has been on antibiotics for 7 days now, just had his 8th dose tonight, for a sinus infection.  This evening he spiked a fever of a little over 101.  The only difference I noticed in his behavior is a lack of appetite.......he ate hardly any dinner and he has been drinking enough to float a small platoon.  Aside from that, he is playing pretty normally and his sleep does not seem terribly disrupted, if anything, he is sleeping more.

I suppose it could be viral in nature since he's already on antibiotics, but would you call the pedi anyway if the fever persists?  I have never had anything like this happen.

Re: What do you think this is about?

  • Oy that's tough.  Do you think you'd get the $25 "let it run its course" advice (or whatever it costs you)?  It's not normal, but I will tell you that the virus running around right now is wonky.

B's fever spiked up around 101 Friday night.  I called the pedi line because it had not been that high and coupled with essentially a week of diarrhea was enough to worry me.  Pedi on call (who is actually our pedi) told me that the fever was not necessarily a bad thing.  She predicted that he'd bounce back quickly and by Sat night he was better.  FWIW, after it spiked up around 101 Friday night, it broke during his nap Saturday afternoon.  So she was right.

With his symptoms I'd see how he is in the morning, and go from there.  It might warrant a call if nothing else.  GL.  I hate illness!

  • I'd call if the fever persists. I will say Nora had just gotten over one illness and a couple days later, she had that same temp with no other symptoms. It took a few days of just a low grade fever for a cough and chest congestion to follow. Hope he feels better soon!

  • I agree that it is most likely a virus since he is already on antibiotics. But if it persists then yes I would most likely call. Does ibuprofen or Tylenol help bring down his temperature?

I don't know, I stuck him in bed  Wink

I'm guessing it will be gone in the morning.  Hopefully.
