root canal

so apparently I need one. My dentist is sending me someone who can do it in shot and I have clearance from my OB. My MIL is concerned (she is a hygentist) wants me to wait till after the baby. I have no toothache or anything but when I went to get a filling today they realized I need this. I have an evaluation soon but wanted to see what others thought and if anyone had personal experience.

Re: root canal

  • I had a root canal done about a month ago, when I was 12 weeks. Honestly, it was easier than getting a filling done! Super easy. No need to stress about it.

I was supposed to get a crown afterward, but due to pregnancy-related gum issues, my dentist wants to wait until after the baby is born.

  • IDK if this helps but I just was at my OB today and talking about dental stuff. I had a root canal that didn't take and I had to get the tooth extracted right before I got pregnant. Then I was scheduled for an implant but the dentist told me to wait until the 2nd tri. I talked to my OB today about it and he said all lights are green. The dentist prob. said wait because they are worry warts but it should be fine. He said I'll need to take an antibiotic which is fine as long as its on the approved list and that to just make sure I remind them I am pregnant and so no Novocaine with epinephrine. Any x-rays needed to double sheild the belly. So that makes me feel better.

GL!! If it helps at all I had the root canal done 3 times on the same tooth and I had very minor swelling and almost no pain. Its just an uncomfortable procedure more then anything else.
