First Ultrasound and WOW

I had my first ultrasound this morning and it was great - got to see and hear a heartbeat, then the u/s tech said "how many did you transfer?" and I said oh just one.  Well, there are two fuzzy little heartbeats - identical twins.  I'm in absolute and total shock.  I'm thrilled everything looked great - both babies are about the same size - one was 6w3d and the other was 6w4d.

Any advice on what I do next? I'm thinking put my house on the market and quit my job? (neither of which are really possible) I'm so glad dh was there but poor thing just kept mubling something about money :)

What a surprise!  Congrats!  My only advice would be to take each day one at a time and to start getting recs on a MFM/Peri in addition to your OB.

    Congrats!

Make sure that with identical twins you either consult with a peri/MFM or see one exclusively.  I bypassed the OB altogether and just saw a peri exclusively.  Also, make sure to choose a peri/MFM/OB that delivers out of a hospital with a level 3 NICU.

Identical twins are the best.  Congrats again!

Big Smile  Wow!!  That's quite a nice surprise!

Your DH is not alone -- the first thing my DH said, after the initial shock, was "how are we going to be able to afford to put 2 through college at the same time?"  I told him we needed to focus on paying for daycare first...

    Welcome to the twins club!!!

Thanks - my RE said I'd definitely see a MFM but in our state they don't deliver so you have to have both.  I'm trying to research NICU's before I pick an OB b/c I guess I should be prepared.  Unfortunately I googled identical twins and it sounds a little scary about the potential complications.

Gotcha.  And stay away from Dr. Google.  There are risks involved for sure, but that's why you'll be in the best hands possible and they'll monitor you a ton.  Feel free to PM me anytime you have questions, and congrats again!  Come see us on the Multiples board!

OMG!  What a great suprise.  We put two back and ended up with twins.  DH and I were a little scared about the money situation even though we knew we could end up with twins and had planned for that situation financially.  Its normal to feel a little worried regardless.  BUT, you have plenty of time to figure finances out and you will be totally suprised at the generosity of others.

Fantastic surprise.  So glad both look great.

When we found out we were having multiples (two identical, one fraternal), my DH's first response was, "excuse me"!

It takes time to get used to the news, but what a blessing!

    Congrats.

Congrats!  The weekend after we saw twins on the u/s, I did the same thing.  I found a house in our neighborhood and made my DH go look at it.  He humored me and then vetoed!  My panic ebbs and flows, but I think it will all work out!  I am also not quitting my job.

    Identical twins, so exciting!!!
