enfamil vs. similac?

I know that every child is different so what works for one...

But I was wondering is people have opinions on which one is better.  Currently we are supplementing EBM with Enfamil Newborn but DS is having some gas issues.  Anyone try both Enfamil Gentlease and Similac sensitive for gas / fussiness?

We are thinking about starting one of these as we transition from EBM to 100% formula.

Re: enfamil vs. similac?

  • They are pretty much the same, and have to be nutritionally equal. We are a similac house, and always have been!

  • We used Similac with N and will use (hopefully) Similac with A when she is on formula.

  • I use Enfamil for DD. She started on EBM as well, then moved to Enfamil NB, which she had BAD gas on - but she started having gas issues on BM too. Then we switched to Gentlease, which helped a little but not enough. So finally, we ended up on Nutramigen - all Enfamil. I think I read somewhere that you when/if you have to switch formula formulations, then it's best to stay w/in the same brand, but that could have been an Enfamil booklet I was reading so they might be just saying that! I love Nutramigen - it's freakin' EXPENSIVE, but it helped sooooo much w/ DD's gas.
  • I think it's a coke or pepsi question.  No one is technically superior, yet everyone has their preferences.

My boys are now on a 50/50 blend of regular similac and similac sensitive.

  • DS has had gas issues pretty much from day 1 . We've tried enfamil gentle, target gentle and similac sensitive for fussiness/gas. In our experience, not all formula is equal, at least not for Noah. We've had the best luck with similac sensitive for fussiness/gas. Target was good too except it made him constipated. Enfamil gentle did not help the gas at all. W/ similac sensitive he even burps much better/ easier.

  • Oh and wanted to add.....pedi said that if you change brands it's better to go from the same type.......gentle to gentle. That's better than bouncing from different types in the same brand.
