Vote on my girl names

Looking for a name of Hebrew origin that is easy to pronounce in the US, but also in Israel (most of my extended family lives there).

We're pretty set on the middle name Gracie. It's after my aunt Graciela that passed away. It also has significance for my husband (he trains in martial arts, specifically Gracie Jiu Jitsu).

ETA: My husband is Italian and we have a very Italian last name....similar to "DiPorto"

I really don't like Gracie as a middle name.  It keeps the first names from aging well in my opinion.  That being said, Graciela sounds beautiful, and includes the word Gracie for DH's martial arts.  Then again though how often is the middle name used.  Although it does tend to appear on diplomas and marriage licenses and things like that so its really more of the way it looks then sounds.  Gracie looks and sounds young to me.

Thanks for posting. I do agree with you that it sounds young and was debating the same thing with hubby. He really wants to use Gracie instead of Grace or Graciela. And like you said, it's just the middle name which is rarely used (i dont even have one), so I caved on this one. He's pretty much letting me pick the first name, so I thought it was a fair agreement.

I think Gracie is really cute for a middle name. It's better than the ubiquitous Grace. I voted for Amelia, I think Amelia Gracie flows really well. Actually, I think all of your choices flow well with Gracie.

I love Maya Graciela! Gracie is too playful to me for a middle name or first name for that matter (more of a nn), but I think honoring your Aunt by using her full name is a great idea!

I love love love Aviva. It's so strong but feminine. My favorite camp counselor ever was named Aviva and I'll always associate that name with her awesome personality.

 

Will she had a Hebrew name? Or will it just be the Hebrew pronunciation of the first name? You could always do the Hebrew name as a variant of Gracie. Just a thought

I love Eva, Aria and Liana, although I wouldn't use a NN with Liana, it is my cousin's name and she has never shortened it, it's so pretty as it is. I think if Gracie has so much significance you should use it, let your DH have the MN, there are far worse things he could want it to be (not that I think Gracie is anyway bad, I am actually thrilled it isn't Grace). I like Amelia but it is so popular and I am guessing many of them have the MN Grace. Good luck, I like all the names you chose.

I vote for Liana, but I'm biased as it is my name. I've never used a nickname. I also don't think it sounds bad with Gracie, although I like Grace or Graciela better.

How do you pronounce Elena?  If it's E or uh-layna then I would vote for that.

Thanks! No worries, I'm not letting anyone talk me out of it. I was having doubts about it too, which is why I asked for other suggestions.

But I'm pretty sure we're going to stick with it since it is so meaningful to both of us.

Agreed - Gracie is too cutesy for a formal name. Stick with Graciela or Grace and it will be quite beautiful. You can always call her Gracie
