Is it weird to be FB friends with my babysitter?

I typically get in touch with her via texting but I'm wondering if I should send a FB friend request to her, too?  I sent a text to her 3 hrs ago to see if she can babysit when we go to my ER on Sunday but she hasn't gotten back to me.  (I know.. I just need to relax.)   She's 23 and has close to 900 friends.  I just don't know how these "young kids" communicate these days!

meh, you might see things you don't want to. I peeked at my cousin's page and I was SHOCKED how many "mature" things these young kids talk about and do.

I'd stick to texts, I think.

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't. My old DCP friended me and I would see things on her page that made me realize she wasn't as good of a sitter as I thought. Made me go insane and eventually switch daycares. I'd just wait for her to text you or maybe call her?

This is exactly what I'm afraid of.  ugh.  I probably don't want to know.  No.. I KNOW I don't want to know.

don't do it. fb works both ways. do you REALLY want her reading what you say?

I ran into this with my old nanny in the city. I actually thought about accepting her as a friend (for about 5 minutes) then I snapped out of it! you're your sitter's boss!

I may have to agree with the other ladies on this one.

 I didn't work for my OB/GYN practice while I was pregnant (just with them at the hospital) I went into the office for PTL.  I saw the younger Dr in the practice, he's cool always sat at the nurses station to gossip, and gay (so obviously nothing but a professional interest in the goods).  He was getting ready to do a cervical check, DH said "don't you think it's weird that you're facebook friends with him and he's getting ready to stick his hand in your vag?"  It's not weird to me, but some people think it's weird that some of my grade school teachers have friended me.  I'm pretty liberal with my fb friendships. 

I don't leave DS with anyone that isn't family (just b/c we have tons of family around) so I don't know how I'd feel about it.

I agree with Davez, I have quite a few cousins in HS that I'm freinds with on fb and I have to block them.  I can't stand to read their status updates and when I look at their pics I'm appauled. 

Our babysitter is a high school senior and I have no desire to be her fb friend.  She is a good kid and I trust her with dd.  I don't want to read her status updates and honestly I don't want her to read mine.  I'm fine with chatting with her before and after a babysitting job or when we're having a bonfire with her parents in the summer time (we're neighbors).  I stick with texting her when I have a potential babysitting job and if I didn't hear from her after a certain period of time I'd call her house.
