I am planning on starting a swim class with DS soon so I was looking at swimsuits for him. What is the point of a rashguard? Is it necessary for swimming in a pool at the Y?

Rashguard is mostly to cover from the sun, I think.

It helps keep them warm in the pool, and I wouldn't take Jack swimming without one.

I'm pretty sure it's for sun protection.

As for being a requirement at the Y, I would call them to find out their regulations for this sort of thing.

Sun protection. Warmth. I do not think they are necessary for swim lessons.
