Meltdown Last Night

So I finally had my first pregnancy meltdown last night. I am scheduled to go to Ireland May 11th for 10 days, the trip was planned and booked prior to finding out I was pregnant. I will be just going into the 3rd trimester. This week, I started having doubts if I would be up to the trip, different hotel every night, lots of driving. So I called my sister who organized the trip to find out the details of the travel insurance only to learn we don't have it bc she didn't think it was necessary. And it all went downhill from there. I am looking into other travel insurance options now but still who doesn't get travel insurance for an international trip? Thanks for listening!

  • aww! i hope you can get your money back if you do decide the trip will be too much. And i totally understand the meltdown, i had one myself since my entire family was going to take their first family vacation together in years to disney this summer... and i will be 33 weeks pregnant... in june... in florida. Needless to say i'm not going but i cried about it for awhile.

  • If your trip was paid for by credit card, you should double check - some cards provide insurance upon booking.

I plan to travel to the UK and Portugal when I am 27 weeks, and also to Florida at 24 weeks. I plan to bring comfortable walking shoes, and relax and take it easy as much as I need to. I hope your trip works out, and hopefully if for some reason you can't go, you are able to recuperate some of the costs. Good luck!

  • Sorry to hear!  I almost had a panic attack in my doctor's office when I was asking him about flying and pregnancy.  I started counting how many weeks I'd be for our honeymoon/ babymoon at the end of April.  I will be 22 weeks and he reassured me that the general population can fly through their pregnancy, but some airlines don't allow it after a certain point.

I do think you will have the trip of a lifetime before the baby comes and honestly I would still do it.  But that is just me!  I totally understand your fear right now without travel insurance and that's a lot of traveling to be doing during pregnancy.  Best of luck with your decision!

  • well, i must admit, i have travelled out of the country several times without any insurance, but never while pregnant or while in a group. i think if i were going with a group i would've asked if people wanted insurance and let that fall to them rather than making an assumption. i can see why you're upset. if youre accustomed to international travel than you know for sure if you will be up for it. and if youre not, no reason to beat yourself up. i agree with the other poster to look into any options you might have tied to your card. such a bummer!
