Birthing the placenta during c section?

Hey everyone,

I ended up having an emergency c section, I was at least 8 cm when I went to the OR and I guess they pulled out my baby, sewed me up, and pushed my placenta out vaginally.... I haven't had my 6 week appointment yet, and I wanted to ask my doctor then, but I'm really curious. Does anyone know the reasoning for this? Has anyone else had this done??

  • I've never heard of that! How strange. maybe there's a benefit of delivering the placenta vaginally?

  • That's really odd to me.... but im not an expert by any means only speaking by experience from my own c/s they removed mine through the c/s incision not vaginally.

  • So strange! I am curious why they would do this. My OB definitely removed the placenta while I was open and told me that he likes to make sure everything in the abdomen is very 'dry' before he sutures you back up. Very interesting though!
