Frustrated....DD will still not hold her own bottle or cup

She refuses. I have tried sippy cups and straw cups. She knows what to do with the staw ones but doesn't like it and starts screaming until I transfer it into a bottle. She also does not know how to tilt the cup. She is almost 11 months old and isn't this something that she should be doing by now?

  • My 1st DD was by now so i have been frustrated too, because DD#2 does not want to use a sippy and still loves her bottle... I have been told just wait it will come... so I guess we will see, I am in the same boat you are.

  • My son won't hold his bottle to save his life. The only time he comes close to it is when he wants to play with the liner when drinking of a Playtex drop in. Other than that, you would think he is unable to use his upper limbs.

I swear he just opens his mouth like a prince expecting people to put the food in there for him. I'm more annoyed than worried at this point, though.

  • No, she shouldn't necessarily be doing that by now. With DS he NEVER held his bottle. Never. He didn't get the tilting thing down until he was like 2, he used the straw cups that you didn't have to tilt until then. It's really no big deal it will come.

I'm not understanding why this is a bad thing? He just wants to be close to you while he eats. I nurse as well as bottle feed, if I didn't bottle feed she wouldn't even have a bottle to "need" to hold, ya know?

I think this is part of it, she enjoys being held...I love it too. I just hate when people make comments about her not doing it herself. It would also be nice once in a while if she could do it once in a while if we were out.

  • DS wouldn't either.  I waited until he really wanted the bottle, then just handed it to him.  He kind of freaked out for a couple minutes, but once he realized the only way he was getting the bottle was if he did it himself he gave in and did it.  He needs to be lying semi-propped up though...he doesn't totally get the tilting part.

Ignore them. My mom used to make comments all the time and I told her to go shove it. DS was off of the bottle at 13 months anyway, around the time he got the straw sippy down. I just figure it doesn't last forever :D
