Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Not sleeping

My DD began STTN at 10wks.  Since Christmas when she was 8mos, she started waking up at night 2-4x's.  I figured it was teething so I picked her up and sometimes nursed and other times just cuddled until she fell back asleep and I put her back in her crib.  She still doesn't have any teeth at 9 1/2mos, but now she wakes up immediately when I put her in her crib and wants to sleep on my chest on the couch.  I've been up with her so many times over the past few weeks.  When I leave her in her crib, she cries hysterically and I find her sitting up.  I just started reading Ferber's book, but I struggle with letting her cry.  Does anyone have advice?

Re: Not sleeping

  • My advice: Let her cry. Oops, that came out mean. ;) Seriously, the bully in me says suck it up, do Ferber, deal with her crying for a few short days and then you will both be getting the sleep you need.

It really works well if you commit. I had to do it. It sucked. But it was over quickly.

    Good luck! :)

  • Our daughter has done the same thing every time she is teething ( we have our 9th tooth coming threw)

I usually just cuddle her back to sleep and then either put her in her crib or if worse comes to worse I let her sleep with us.

We have tried letting her cry and it hasnt worked. Usually we just end up with a really upset baby that takes for over to get her calmed back down.
