3rd Trimester

29 weeks... 23 lbs.

How much has everyone else gained? I got the "weight talk" from my doctor at my last appointment which totally bummed me out... I kind of thought I looked damn good!!

Re: 29 weeks... 23 lbs.

  • I got a ... you gained that much? ... in November.  She hasn't said anything since then.  I'm 30 weeks and up about 35.

  • My weight gain will make me a hated woman, so I'm not going to say, but I don't think you're too uncommon.  Even if they say 25-35 lbs, lots of women gain more, and honestly, most of it can be water weight, which will be easy to drop once the baby is born.

Just make smart choices and drink lots of water to help with water retention.

  • I'm rather thin, but I am at 29 weeks and have gained 22 lbs.  It's all in belly too.  My doctor has said this is great and expects me to gain around 30-35 lbs.

I'm not worried since I eat very healthy, go for long walks for exercise, and have not gained the weight anywhere other than my belly.

  • i will top you all.  i retain a ton of water but i drink lots of water so that doesn't help me.  i stopped looking at 50 lbs, last week i lost one lb and i was so happy.  and i started out skinny, don't know how its possible. and i eat healthy too.  oh well.

  • I have gained 25 lbs so far and expect to put much more on. With my last two pregnancies I gained 50 lbs with each.
  • I am a lot further than you but I though that I was doing pretty good with weight when I was around 20-30 weeks.  Once I hit about 34 - 35 weeks it was all down hill.  There was one week I gained 5lbs and the next I gained 0.  I like to think that the 5 lb week was water weight as I really noticed it around then and from then on wasn't able to wear my rings.   Anyway my plan was to gain only 25-30 lbs.  I though I was on track however I am now at 34lbs at 38 weeks prego. What I am trying to say is that it all comes the last two months so watch out.  It is very easy to put on 2 lbs a week at the end.  My doctor told me most women gain as much in third tri that they did in 1 and 2 combined.  Good Luck and we all gain differently.

  • I'm 33 weeks tomorrow and have gained 20lbs so far.  I do not think that 23lbs at 29 weeks is excessive at all!  If your BP is going up or you have GD, then I would understand.  I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • Up 50 pounds here and I never got a weight talk!  I gained 55 last time and got the weight talk once.  I was skinny to start and am not worried at all (I got to my pre-pregnancy weight within 4 months and will be doing the same plan of calorie counting and working out I did last time).  I am enjoying eating what I want and being a bit round :)
  • 25lbs at 29 weeks for me... I started gaining 1lb a week at 26w.  My dr hasn't said anything good or bad, but when I got on the scale and said, "Oh, God bless America!" when I saw my weight on Monday, the nurse giggled and said it was just fine and normal.  If I keep up this trend, I'm looking at exactly 35lb weight gain, which I'm OK with.  And I'd like to say I'm all belly... but my Puerto Rican genes are really kicking in, so I'm 1/2 belly and 1/2 hips and butt.  :)

  • At 30.5 weeks I am up about 8 but fully expect to add at least 10 more before the end. Last time I was up about 25 total by the end. Not sure why the weight is slower this time but I'll take it.
  • I'm 28 weeks and have gained 10 lbs.

  • I can't believe you got the weight talk!  That seems totally normal to me.  If you gain a pound a week until the end, you will have gained only 33 total.

I think I had gained 30 pounds at 29 weeks.  I am now at 42 pds at 35 weeks.  I have been putting on 2 pounds a week since about 26 weeks.  Nothing I can do about it.  I gained 41 with my son and lost it all by the time I weaned him.  This pregnancy has been different and I am swelling this time too.  My dr. never says anything about my weight and this past week I was actually measuring 3 weeks behind.

  • I am 37 weeks and 5 days, I gained 50 pounds so far! My midwife keeps telling me not to focus on my weight gain because I have had a healthy pregnency and that everyones weight gain is very individualized. Some people's weight gain is more hormone driven.  I eat really healthy and do my best to keep moving so she says that these are the most important things.  I do wonder if I will ever return to my prepregnancy skinny self though.  I do miss clothes shopping for cute non pregnancy clothes, something that doesn't have an elasic waist!
  • I am at 30 weeks and have gained 23lbs.. I received the talk but since I am eating healthy I am not worrying about it.
  • I think your weight gain is fine too, everyone gains so differently. Try not to focus on the number but eat healthy and drink lots of water.

  • At my 29 week appt I'd gained 16 lbs. My dr. has never said one word to me about my weight, good or bad.

  • I lost a little over 14 pounds through week 33.  Since then I have gained about 5 pounds.  I started out overweight, and we (the OB and I) think that when I have her I will actually be down weight from pre-pregnancy.  I can say for a fact that loosing weight while pregnant is not fun.  Because you feel like something is wrong.  If I had been a normal average size 12 (I started pre pregnancy at 18), my OB told me that 25-30 pounds of weight gain would have been perfectly normal.

  • Ill be 32 weeks Saturday and I've gained about 30 lbs...I switched doctors half way through pregnancy so when I first saw him, he did mention my weight saying to be careful  but lately he's been saying I'm perfectly on track  I feel like no matter what your body has a mind of its own..I would not think you've gained too much at all!  I thought the expected was 25-35 lbs?
