DD #2 is 9 months old and will be getting tubes on Friday.
The ENT explained the procedure, said it only takes about 7 minutes, etc. I just would like to hear how other LOs around DDs age did when they woke up.
DD was a little older when she had hers done (13 months) but it was easy peasy!
The procedure literally took minutes. When they came to get us we walked back into the recovery room right as they were bringing DD out. She was groggy and cried for a little while but wasn't unconsolable. I rocked her and gave her a little juice. She seemed a tiny bit uncomfortable at first but within about 30 minutes she was fine. We left there and took her home and the rest of the day was completely normal!
DS just had tubes put in on January 18th. He was 9 months old at the time of the procedure. It really took less than 30 minutes from when they took him back to the OR to the time that he woke up from the anesthesia. When he woke up he was super groggy and couldn't hold his head up very well. They said he didn't cry when they put him under and he didn't cry when he woke up. They told me that most kids cry when they wake up because they are confused and disoriented, not because they are in any pain. We took him home and he was his normal self for the rest of the day. We just continued using the antibiotic drops as prescribed and never had any complications.
DS's ears are still draining. I am sure they told you that they may do that after the procedure. They said it is nothing to worry about and just to keep using the drops when that happens!
Ask your ENT what the procedure is for when they put your DD under. The PP mentioned that they told her how her DS reacted to being put to sleep. I actually went back with DD and was singing/talking to her until she was asleep. And they brought her out to us before she was really even awake.
every hospital has different policies re: child patients and parents. Regardless, know that the OR nurses will love your LO as their own while she's with them. (ive been an OR nurse for 10 years)
for us they just brought her out when she was almost recovered from the anesthesia. she was pretty upset and crying and wriggling like crazy. she was rather unhappy until after her nap and by that evening she was back to normal.
Re: Ear tubes - tell me about "recovery"
