Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What do you do during dinner?

With you LO? My crazzy kid wants my full attention and it is super hard to get dinner done!

Tonight I had to turn on Baby Einstein but it only entertained him for like 10 min.

Also he is teething but still, the kid always needs his mommy.

Thoughts???

  • I open the tupperware drawer and let her go to town! Or I put her in her high chair and load her with cheerios.
  • Loading the player...
  • During dinner she eats with us.  We are switching to more of a BLW approach which has been great as she feeds herself.

While cooking dinner she plays while either DH or I watch her (the other one cooks), plays in her jumperoo, or I let her crawl around and explore the kitchen.  She has a drawer with her own play kitchen things that I got in the $1 section in Target.

  • I have been meaning to ask this too! Cooking dinner is a nightmare, my H works nights so I'm on my own and Simon is always especially needy around dinnertime. Right now it's a combo of letting him shine and letting him destroy the kitchen. All the contents in the lower cupboards are baby safe, and he pulls them allllll out and pushes them around the floor. And he also hangs on my legs. It is so awesome.

  • When she was taking 2 naps I'd do the major prep during her last one, it was usually from 3-4ish.  Now I wait until DH gets home, she's most clingy in the evening.  I find the crock pot is genius because I can put dinner on while she's eating breakfast!  During dinner she's eating with us, no problem there :)

  • I wear DD on my back while I make dinner, but to be honest, we eat out almost every day. She sits in her highchair and we eat at the same time.

  • When I cook dinner he is playing in the kitchen either on the floor or in his high chair. When that doesn't work Cheerios. He typically loves watching me cook....hopefully this lasts.
  • Give DS his snack cup, sippy cup, turn on the wonder pets, let the dog in the house, and hope for the best.  A friend and I recently started doing dream dinners too so you go to dream dinners, assemble all your meals and freeze them.  Then you just defrost and cook so it takes a lot of work out of making dinners and cleaning up.  It also gives me more time to spend with DS after work.
  • I either wait for DH to get home from work or I put DD in the high chair with a snack as I cook.  Sometimes she will keep herself entertained in the pack and play with a bunch of toys.  She does seem to be extra needy around dinner time.

  • The bottom shelf of our island has all baby friendly items on it. She loves playing there.
