Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Attatchment Issues

Hello! I am in desperate need of some advice! In my last month of pregnancy I quit my job because I was accepted into grad school. I decided I was going to go full time and my plan is to finish right before my sons 2nd birthday. He is currently 6 months and he spends all his time with me. Last semester I only had to go to campus 3 times a week for 2 hours at a time and this semester I only have one class that I have to attend on campus. I just recently had a month off between semesters and I was the only one who was spending time with my son because my husband works long hours 6 days a week. I recently had to start taking my son to a babysitter one day a week for two hours for my only class but he screams for the whole time I am gone and stops the second I come to pick him up. I don't know what to do. I read so much about making sure your baby successfully attatches to you but never read anything about them being too attatched adn what to do if that happens. Any advice??

Re: Attatchment Issues

  • I babysat a little girl who used to do that.  Screamed the whole time her parents were gone, unless she was watching TV lol.  I just let her watch TV and each time I babysat she did a little better each time.  It took 5 - 6 times of babysitting and then  she would only cry when they first left, but after we started playing she did great.

  • I think it is an age thing, not your LO being overly attached to you.  I'm sure as you continue to go, your LO will get used to the sitters and will adjust.
  • He will adjust, don't worry.  It's just so new to him right now.  Eventually you'll both fall into this new routine and everything will be fine  :)
