Random, Odd Question

This is an odd question but I am wondering if they make you give a urine sample at every appointment? I will be seeing the doctor tomorrow morning and my appointment is at 8:15. This is a precarious time considering I would have already emptied my bladder upon waking. It's not a special appointment, just a monthly check-up. This is my first bebe so I don't know protocol. If you think they will, I'll just start downing water before the appointment, I guess.

TIA!!!

  • At my office they do...maybe just try drinking a bottle of water or something as soon as you wake up if you don't normally have to pee that soon after waking up.

  • I did not have to give one at my second apt today.

well, therein lies the problem: I WILL have to go right after I wake up and I'm worried I won't be able to go when they need me to. I guess better safe than sorry-I will chug a bunch of water after I go.

  • I always have to.
  • my last dr. would give you a pee cup to pee into first thing in the morning and then bring that sample with you--it was so gross. This dr I have now has only had me pee at my 1st appt, at 7 wks.

  • I have to take the pee cup home and bring FMU in to every appt.

  • I check in then pee for every appointment.  I always have to pee though so I just drink a little water and I'm fine.
  • My doctor told me up front that I'll have to pee in a cup every appointment so to be prepared by coming with a full bladder.

  • I also have bring in my first morning urine at every appointment. Its annoying and gross but my doctor says that I have to. They test my urine at every appointment for proteins and such. Well they do it for every pregnant woman. They do this so that if anything where to go wrong they can catch it early and hopefully correct it before it becomes a huge issue.

try to see if you can get your next appointment a little bit later so this won't be an issue again. Good luck at your appointment.

  • Yup, my dr. takes a pee sample at every appointment. They told me it's to check for sugars and UTI.

i'm torn on getting a later appointment because with an ob it is very easy for them to get behind with emergency appointments, etc.  i once waited 2 hours before the receptionist mentioned the doctor was called away to deliver a baby. i figured first appointment of the day would mean minimal waiting. we'll see. i'm just gonna chug water to be safe.

This exactly. The moment I walk in the office I'm given a cup to pee in.

  • ...comes out of the woodwork :)

     Lurker here-hello! 2nd time momma here. I haven't introduced myself-I'm due Aug.13th :)

Pregnant ladies are more susceptible to UTIs & are usually checked by urine sample each appt. Other health issues are also tell-tale through urine (other ones that come to mind atm is Ketones, and proteins)

Having a bad case of  pregnancy brain today so I hope that came out right!

     H&H months to us all!

  • Last time I wasn't prepared at all and and had JUST peed before I went. I gave them the pee cup back with an embarrassing little dribble in it, LOL! But they didn't say anything!
