So we want to try cloth wipes also but reading some post here I have contradicting info. I've read here that some moms pre wet some before leaving the house and carry them in a small wet bag....but, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a cloth wipe? I mean because I'm my research I've read that disposable wipes leave humidity behind which causes rashes, if there's a rash already only makes the problem worse, plus they smear rather than clean, with cloth wipes you have some fabric that it 's still dry allowing you to completely dry you baby's bum, plus the advantage of the textured fabric allows you to properly clean rather than smearing. Mainly my thing is about how wet nor not wet they are. So did I understand wrong, or where is my confusion, please clarify it for me!
Re: Cloth wipes
We don't use them out and about, but we have pre-wet cloth wipes in a wipe warmer. They're not dripping, but definitely wet, and we've never had a rash issue because of that.
There's going to be some level of wetness on a baby's butt almost all of the time, and they do just fine.
I disagree with the thought that the wetness is what causes rashes. Generally, poop on a baby's butt too long or sensitivity to the chemicals in the diapers or wipes (disposable) are what usually cause rashes. If you are changing often and using cloth, a little dampness is not going to be a problem. When you put the new diaper on it will absorb any wetness left behind.
In the beginning we used a spray bottle or peri bottle and wet the wipes with that as needed. I then got a wipe warmer and keep wet wipes in there. In fact, the warm wipes seem to clean better and leave less moisture too. In the diaper bag I will wet a few wipes and store in a travel wipes container (like u would with disposables). I make sure not to leave them in there for more than one day though b/c they could get moldy.
