Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Reflux question

3 month lurker here.....just wondering for moms who have babies with reflux, when did you start to see it improve? All I can find is that it usually resolves by 12 to 18 months. I'm hoping to see some improvement before that because she is really hurting! Thanks!

Re: Reflux question

  • have you tried medication?  DS is still on Prevacid 7.5mg 2x day and thickened formula, he's almost 9 months.

  • She is on Zantac .8 ml 2x day, Prevacid 30mg 1x day, and Alimentum formula. It helps a lot, but she still is uncomfortable, and occasionally I can tell is hurting. Just wondering when moms start to see it resolve a bit.
  • Our pedi diagnosed him at 8 weeks.  He had been screaming for hours on end and spitting up what seemed like whole meals.  He put him on baby Zantac.  Our doc said it was the burning he would feel every time he spit up that would cause him to cry and cry and cry.  It helped and we continued for a few months.  We started weaning him off of it ourselves because I wanted to see if it was something he was outgrowing, I didn't want him to be on medication for an entire year.  He still spits up some now (most all babies do) but not with the screaming that used to follow.  Ask your doc about medication - it will at least help her with the pain associated with it.
  • DD had it.  We took her off of her meds (Prevacid) about a month ago  and are currently transitioning to a milk based formula, she will be 8 months old on the 23rd.  She is doing great... Still spits up like its her job, but it doesn't hurt her anymore.  Alimentum, Dr. Brown's bottles, Prevacid and keeping her elevated AT ALL TIMES was what really helped us.

Hang in there, it really does get better.  GL!
