I knew it would happen eventually and today was my day - you saved us a trip to the doctor and let us still go on our outing this afternoon. Ollie shoved a dried bean up his nose and thankfully told me about it. A quick puff and it was out! No tears, no drama, no biggie. I didn't even have to take him out of his carseat. (I was driving when he told me about it.) I know I would've panicked like a madwoman if I hadn't filed your trick in my brain all that time ago, so THANK YOU!
For the mamas that don't know:
When your child puts something in their nose (notice I say "when" not "if"), the trick to get it out is to block the nostril without the object and give a quick, hard puff of air in the mouth. Whatever they stuck in their nose will fly right out. It's a pretty cool trick!
Re: thanks for the nostril trick, Howley!
Cool!
It's funny just how knowledge is power.
When it happened that first time with Dylan I wasn't fully panicked but I was stressed.
When Jace's turn came and I knew what to do it took 30 seconds away from the dinner table. No one else even got up from the meal and then it went on like nothing had happened.
That's great that you didn't even have to take him out of the seat!
Inquiring minds want to know: Did you get snot on your cheek when the bean hit you?
hee hee
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I don't know where that thing flew - I think it hit the back of the seat (still RFing), then bounced onto his shoulder. Covered in snot, of course.
I told him to tell grandma where he put his bean - he pointed to his nose and then started puff puff puffing. Clearly I impressed him with my mad skillz.

me too! hilarious! and we too have used this trick thanks to Howley - also in the car - on the way home from a trip across the state. As I sat next to him reading US magazine .. unbeknownst to me Jack was stuffing tiny kleenex balls up his nose.. The howley trick worked like MAGIC! At 60mph no less! No fuss, no muss (well, very little muss.)
