Infertility

this is getting really old...

I had my post-m/c hysteroscopy, HSG, 3-D saline u/s this morning and guess what?  The only thing that my RE is concerned about is my remaining septum, which I've already had two surgeries to remove in the last year.  He said that in light of the loss, we should revisit this, yet again.  So I have another consult w/my surgeon (who did my last surgery in Aug. and cleared me for IVF post-op since it was <1cm) on Thursday to see what he thinks we should do.  I feel like I'm living in an old Bill Murray movie and it ain't Caddyshack.

Any advice from former septum sufferers welcome.

I had almost a complete septum removed in December.  Did you have a balloon with your last surgery?  The balloon + premarin seemed to do the trick for me even though I am a notoriously bad healer.  I still have a very slight dip to my uterus but nothing that they want to touch again.  at least for now...

I did have a balloon with my last surgery, but not with my first (though that RE only removed a part of it).  I was on high dose Premarin and progesterone (which suck) after both.  They thought I was fine, but now that I've had a m/c, they are concerned that what is left could still be an issue.  Hope you have better luck.

  • Im so sorry you are dealing with this again.

Have you had a pelvic MRI prior to either of the op. hysteroscopies?  It may be worth doing to know exactly what you are dealing with.  My RE indicated that he was able to go into much much more of the vascular tissue based on what he knew from the MRI.

I had an MRI before my first septum surgery last Jan.  It showed that it was nearly complete and partly vascular and part fibrous.  But it turned out that my first surgeon was only comfortable removing the fibrous portion, which I didn't realize was a problem until later, as the remaining vascular portion was significant and too big to proceed with IVF.  My most recent Dr's said that a 3-D u/s is actually the best way to see what you are dealing with, not sure if your RE offers that or not.  It gave us the best perspective I had seen (from before my latest surgury last summer)...

  • I am sorry you have to deal with this again. I had only a small septum, and RE says it's not a problem anymore. Though now I am starting to wonder too.
