Babies: 9 - 12 Months

They have still not released our house for construction!

It's been 6 weeks since the fire and our insurance company is still "investigating" the source so our contractor cannot start any work, or even remove debris (pieces of our dining room wall/floor, really klassy) from the front lawn until it's finished.

I understand that they are trying to recover money themselves if they can, but I am getting impatient. I miss our house. We went by to visit our next door neighbor who just had their baby on Saturday and LO looked at our house and flapped his arms and smiled and pointed, like he missed it too :(

Sorry for the vent, I am still VERY grateful we are all healthy and that we have a place to live until it's ready.

  • Have you called the insurance company to see what the hold up is? You could always play the "I have a small child and we really need to get back to our house and back into our routine" card.

    Good luck!

Yeah, they know we have a small child, but I don't think it will help :(. And thus far, they've been very helpful (well, our adjuster has been, he's not directly involved with the investigation). We've already gotten most of the money to pay for the repairs and other living expenses. Unfortunately, as they are investigating they are involving other parties, who are involving their insurance companies. It's just a mess! We can't even do the repairs until we get the permits from the city, but our contractor is at least working on that. I have no experience so this may be normal, who knows? Hopefully it will be soon!

    Thanks :)

  • No need for an apology. The fact that you are grateful goes without saying. I can't believe it's been 6 weeks and nothing is happening. What the heck is the hold up? You guys obviously want to be back in your house. It's home...

To be fair, a lot actually happened immediately afterwards. They actually emptied pretty much our whole house and restored all of the electronics. Everything as of now is ready to be brought back in (it's in storage off-site), it's just these repairs that need to get started :) Like I said, the permits take a while, so I'm glad at least that process has started.

PS. Day 1 was yesterday, HSG is next friday! It's weird that I'm kind of excited about that, it means that process is moving along at least :). PLus I'm kind of curious to see how things look "in there."

  • That sucks. I have any advice on this situation, but I hope you get your home back soon.
