We've been on an emotional rollercoaster with DS since he was born, with hearing issues. He failed the newborn hearing screen at the hospital, and we've had 7 hearing tests over the last few months. We're in early intervention and he was scheduled to get hearing aids later this month. He got tubes put in his ears a few weeks ago and we were hoping that would help his hearing a bit.
We just went for his earmold impression appointment (where they make the little molds that go in his ears) and we did a quick hearing test. Well....he heard almost EVERY sound they played during the test, and they don't want to fit him for hearing aids at this time. I'm SOOO happy his hearing has improved! We'll still have to work with speech therapists/E.I. to make sure he's on track, and get routine hearing exams to make sure he doesn't need the aids in the future...but, I'm so happy he doesn't need the aids anymore at this point!
There's seriously been a 100 ton weight taken off my shoulders. I just had to share!
Re: just got the best news ever

Mikaela is going to have a little brother!
That's awesome! Now he can still be a rock star!
And here's to his speech, that it's right on track or is soon enough.

Oh, we're definitely going to stay on top of that. We have a therapist coming out every other week, and we'll continue to get hearing tests every month or so. He still does have hearing loss (it's just very mild) -- so the therapy and one-on-one contact will be really important!
That is such great news esyn! I'm so happy for you all. Hoping for continued good news.
Emma is excited O. is getting ready so she can whisper sweet nothings in his ear. ;-)
