So, my in laws bought a carseat to pick Simon and I up this evening and go to a family gtg. I got in their van after they explained that they had issues installing it, wanted to FF him and we were running way late. I jiggle checked the seat and while it seemed secure at the base, it didn't seem reclined enough at all and it wasn't tethered, so the back was really wobbly. They have two foster 2yo's who ride in carseats (obv) and i trust my mil to get the seat in securely. I have never installed one myself, my H always does it while I stand back and criticize. So basically I don't know wtf im doing. So i thought... well, that's good enough. We were only going about 15 minutes away. So i strap Simon in and the straps are like, way effing tight on one side and loosish on the other. And I was feeling so pressured to get the show on the road that i was just like, "okay, let's go. "
I hate that he rode in a seat that wasn't installed very well and i hate that i didn't just take the time to fix it. After we got to our destination it took me less than like, three minutes to fix the straps and tether the back. I should have just done it in the first place and told my fil to stfu.
Re: Ooh, plusalso I have a flameworthy confession.
HAHA, I laughed at this...mainly because I do the same thing!
edited to fix the quote.

I don't think anyone knows what to say to you with all the views and hardly any responses! lol
SB- you know better! The majority of accidents happen close to home and yeah from now on tell your FIL that being late won't matter if god forbid something happened and that car seat wasn't put in right.
Yeah, next time I will just try to ignore all the craziness and pressure to leave and just focus on having that seat in tight. Thank god nothing happened.
I can't flame since I don't know how to install a car seat. I make DH and the fire station do that!
What does it mean to tether it though?
I'll bite, babygirl...
a) Bad mommy for installing the seat improperly.
b) why is Simon FFing at under 1 year, missy???
Oh, okay. Well, still, a smack on the back of your head for a).
But, how do you tether it when it's RFing? DS is still small enough to still be in his carrier type carseat, but I've put my 4 yo niece's convertible car seat in FFing and tethered it. I just can't seem to figure out how you would do that with a convertible carseat RFing.
I won't flame you though. I know it's hard to take a step back and make sure you do the right thing when you're being pressured. You'll know better for next time.

Why am I just now learning this? I was always told that you don't use the tether strap when RFing!
