Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Am I crazy?

I want to have a 6 month "birthday" party for DS. My DH thinks that is just insane and doesn't want to do it. I had one when I was little and want to carry on the tradition. Also, I think it's just a way to get everyone together. So what do you ladies think? Am I crazy? Did anyone else have a 6 month party?

Re: Am I crazy?

  • Not crazy to want to get everyone together, but I would make it known that you're not looking for gifts, otherwise it could be viewed as kind of tacky and like a gift-grab ploy...

  • I was going to write "please no gifts" on the invitations.

In that case then I think it's fine and a nice way to get everyone together, plus if you said it's a family trad then that's nice to keep it going.

  • I would not be opposed to inviting people informally (word of month, phone, e-mail, ect) for a get together to your home.  But I wouldn't have mailed invitations or cake and I'd probably make sure they knew you didn't want gifts.

    This.

Also, we're talking just this year for LO's actual 6 mo birthday, right?  Not for 1.5, 2.5, etc.?

  • I think it is a little silly. I think most people might think it is a chance to get presents, even if you write no gifts, a lot of people still feel obligated.

    DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

BFP#1: EDD 5/7/2010 born on 5/20/2010. A little girl named Emily.

    BFP#2: m/c 10/29/2012 EDD was 6/21/2012 Baby Hope was 6 weeks 3 days.

BFP#3: Twin B stopped growing at 8 weeks and 5 days. Found on 8/10/2014. EDD was 2/26/2014. Twin A is still doing great and due date is 2/26/14.

  • I understand wanting people to get together but I think it is super tacky to have a 6month birthday. If you want to gather people just host a get together. I don't think it should be a celebration of your LO in anyway, not that he isn't worth being celebrated. I'm not even having a big birthday party because after all the baby shower, baby arrival and Christmas gift,  I just can't have a party to get more gifts. I intended to write "no presents" but people still feel obligated and would bring something.
