cries when pooping...any advice?

DD has been crying every time she pushes to poop. It's been over a week now :(

I called pedi a few days ago and she told me prune juice and massage area etc. it's not getting any better. FWIW - we've introduced more formula (weening from BM) into diet and she eats solids, but no new foods lately

Any one else dealt with this? What did you do to help LO?

  • Poor thing! I would try prune or apple juice and also water. Feeding her some pears or prunes might also help her.

  • Isaiah had this issue too and we could see it right there... without getting too graphic, we had to help with a qtip and vaseline. Last week it was bad so we took him in to after hours pediatrics and the doctor had to help with lube and her pinky :( but he is much better now. Now we have to make sure he is eating more liquidy foods and he takes a laxative once a day

  • Annabelle used to do this, it was horrible! It was the worst screams! We gave her prunes, but they only made her pee more, not help her poop. (I'd actually never heard that prunes would help with pooping before coming on here, but I do know they're a diuretic, which explains her constant wet diapers when we give it to her.) We give her juice/water mix daily and it helps a TON! Also, peaches and pears seem to do a pretty decent job, too. I can tell a difference if I miss a day with juice though, not the horrid screams but she'll grunt and tear up. Anyways, that's what has helped with us! I hope something works well for you guys!! :]

  • I was just thinking that maybe it's like in adults where LO has just got a small hemroid and that could also be making him uncomfortable when he goes.

I agree with PP that Pears seem to do the trick.
