Babies: 6 - 9 Months

solids advice

So LO has a hard time with her "lunch". She takes most of her breakfast(2tbs of cereal and about half a jor of stage 2) and most of her dinner(same as breakfast) but the afternoon meal is always tough. I don't want to force it. It is hard to not worry that she is not eatting enough when my friends babies eat so much more. I know the focus right now is still her BM.

Do I just need to just stop stressing and realize she will eat more when she is ready?

She does love her puffs though!! LOL

Re: solids advice

  • I would not stress about it.  We won't even be introducing a third meal until DS is 8 months.

  • Definitely don't stress. Maybe consider changing the time you give her lunch. Perhaps she's too tired at that point or maybe it's too soon after she has milk. Try just offering a little bit of fruit or veggies instead of a whole "meal." But she's only 6+ months... you've got plenty of time to increase her intake.

  • Don't stress about it.  Your LO doesn't really need much in the way of solids, anyway.   When she's ready, she'll eat more - just keep offering and let her take the lead.
  • Thanks ladies! I needed that! I knew that but I stress over everything and I need to stop or I will drive myself(and DH) crazy! We are on vacation soon and we are going to change her feeding schedule to bottle every 4 hours and eatting a "meal" 2 hours after a bottle. We don't want to play around with her schedule until we are home with her. Thanks again!

lol!  I know about the stressing!

Today my stressing has included:  the shape of Dominic's head, how many meals I am feeding him a day,  Natalie's growth, and Olivia's attitude...

How come such a strict schedule?  (if you don't  mind my asking - if you do, just ignore me!)

  • I would definitely not stress - we're only at one meal a day!!

Babies at this age should still be getting their main source of nutrition from breastmilk and/or formula - food is still for fun and practice right now =)

  • The reason for a schedule is for: she is a tough eatter. Ever since we introduced solids the amount of BM she takes has gone down and up. I want to see if she does better on a every  4 hours bottle, 2 hours later food. She take a bottle right now every 3 1/2 hours. I am not married to it but I want to see if that helps. Her pedi also recommended it since sometimes she takes 3 1/2 oz, other times 6 1/2oz.
  • I wouldn't stress it.  Even though we started a 3rd meal a little before 7 months, our pedi said that we could start a 3rd meal at 8 months, we started earlier because he seemed hungry and was already drinking 32ozs of formula a day so I didn't want to increase that.  We stayed with the same amount of formula and added in lunch which is only 2ozs of yogurt.
